The Twin Lakes Duo includes Glenn Korff School of Music Assistant Professor of Percussion Emily Salgado and Jimmy Stagnitti, percussion.

Formed in 2023, the duo strives to highlight underrepresented and living composers through their performances and commissions. They plan to tour and perform around the U.S. annually.

Their program includes Ben Wahlund’s “In the History of Man. . .,” Eric Guinivan’s “Redshift,” the Midwest premiere of Alexis Lamb’s “Zone of Avoidance,” Ivan Trevino’s “Seesaw,” the world premiere of Ancel Fitzgerald Neeley’s “web_2” and Avner Dorman’s “Udacrep Akubrad.”

“The concert features different percussion duets by composers such as Ivan Trevino, Ben Wahlund, Alexis Lamb, and others,” Salgado said. ”We’re premiering two pieces by Michigan-based composers Ancel Fitzgerald Neeley and Alexis Lamb, which we’re super pumped about. It’s really awesome when your friends are willing to write you music. Besides that, it’s going to be a fun afternoon of a wide variety of musical colors and grooves. Hope to see everyone there.”

Salgado is active as a performer, clinician and adjudicator. Her current project, “Well Behaved Women Seldom Make History,” highlights solos by female composers, honoring pioneering female percussionists.

Along with percussion, Salgado marched with Carolina Crown drum corps, where she was a drum major for the 2015 and 2016 seasons. In addition to her position as the Assistant Professor of Percussion at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, she serves on the University Pedagogy Committee and Diversity Alliance through the Percussive Arts Society and is endorsed by Malletech, Inc., and Black Swamp Percussion.

Stagnitti is an active percussionist in southeast Michigan. He has commissioned and performed numerous works for both solo and chamber percussion.  He is also an active composer, having performed a set of improvised and self-composed music as a guest artist with the VIRID and Friends concert series. An active orchestral musician, Stagnitti has appeared with the Toledo, Jackson and Roswell Symphonies.
