Large Instrumental Ensemble Audition Information

Welcome! If you are interested in learning more about how to become a member of UNL's Symphony Orchestra and/or Wind Ensemble, this is the place. FYI: there is no Symphonic Band or Campus Band fall semester 2026. Look for updates on these ensembles here in November.

Quick tips:

• All UNL students are eligible to participate in School of Music ensembles regardless of major or minor. 
• Ensembles are classes. All students participating in an ensemble must register for the class (1 cr.). Consult with your academic advisor to learn more about ensemble registration as it relates to your degree program.
• Ensemble membership bears responsibility. All students participating in an ensemble are expected to attend all rehearsals and practice their instrument every day. Ensemble members need to maintain the strength, agility, and endurance not only to handle the repertoire, but to support and interact with musical colleagues in every rehearsal. Practice rooms are available in Westbrook Music Building. 
• Ensembles are fun and we take them seriously. You're not in high school any more. Consider carefully how the responsibilities of ensemble participation will impact the other elements of your schedule (classes, work, etc.) before committing.

Music Majors & Minors

If you are enrolled in applied lessons (MUAP), review the Large Ensemble Policy to determine the rules associated with your degree program. Ensemble registration can be tricky. When in doubt consult with your academic advisor. 

Non-Music Majors / Minors

All UNL students, regardless of major or minor, are eligible to participate in any GKSOM ensemble. Ensembles are classes and may count for elective credit in certain degree programs. Consult your academic advisor if you would like to learn more.
