Born into a family of bassists, Dr. Chunyang Wang joined the faculty at the Glenn Korff School of
Music at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln as Lecturer of Double Bass in Fall 2025. An active
performer and educator, he currently serves as Principal Bass with Orchestra Iowa and Arizona
Opera, and Assistant Principal Bass with Lincoln’s Symphony Orchestra. He also spends his
summers as a member of the Grant Park Music Festival Orchestra in Chicago. He previously
served as a faculty member at James Madison University and held summer faculty positions
with the Philadelphia International Music Festival, Omaha Conservatory of Music Summer
Institute, and the Mt. Blanca Summer Music Conservatory.
Dr. Wang has presented masterclasses and recitals across the United States, with recent
appearances at the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, Tempe Center for the Arts, and
the Kerr Cultural Center. As a soloist, Dr. Wang has been recognized in numerous national and
international competitions. He was awarded first place in both the American String Teachers
Association Solo Double Bass Competition and the Arizona Double Bass Festival Solo
Competition, fifth place in Bass 2012 International Double Bass Solo Competition in
Copenhagen, Denmark, was a two-time finalist in the International Society of Bassists Solo
Competition, and a semifinalist in The 5th World Bass Festival Solo Competition in Wroclaw,
Poland. He was also a semifinalist in the Bradetich Foundation International Double Bass Solo
Competition, where his original composition, Caprice for Solo Double Bass, was awarded Best
Contemporary Performance.
Dr. Wang holds Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from The Juilliard School, where he
studied with Timothy Cobb, and earned his Doctor of Musical Arts degree under Professor
Catalin Rotaru at Arizona State University.
