Borden elected to board of Association for Hispanic Classical Theatre

Assistant Professor of Theatre Ian Borden has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Association for Hispanic Classical Theatre (AHCT).

The AHCT is a non-profit organization that began in 1984 to promote and foster greater appreciation for Spain’s classical drama in production. An international organization, the Association counts among its members literary scholars, theatrical directors and producers, teachers, and other aficionados of Spain’s Golden Age of Theater

University Theatre presents 'Love's Labor's Lost'

University Theatre continues its season in November with William Shakespeare’s “Love’s Labor’s Lost,” guest directed by Melora Kordos.

Performances are Nov. 13-15 and 18-21 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 23 at 2 p.m. in Howell Theatre, which is located on the first floor of the Temple Building at 12th and R sts.

Professional experiences enhance student learning

Lincoln, Neb.--Usually college students can only receive professional experience through internships or after they receive their degree. The Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film is giving students the opportunity to work side by their professors on a variety of theatre jobs. One such person would be assistant professor of scene design J.D. Madsen.

Filmmaker Jon Jost returns to the Ross Nov. 7-13

Lincoln, Neb.--In 2007, radical filmmaker Jon Jost came to Lincoln to make movies.  He had visited earlier in 1974 as the second filmmaker to participate in the Sheldon Film Showcase (now known as the Norman A. Geske Cinema Showcase).

The recipient of an Artist-in-Residence grant co-sponsored by the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center and the University of Nebraska’s Arts Are Basic Program, Jost wound up making two feature films and a visual installation expressing cultural and geographical nuances of life in the Midwest.

Theatrix kicks off season with 'Time Stands Still'

Lincoln, Neb.--Theatrix, a student-run theatre company within the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film, will kick off its 2014-2015 season with the play Time Stands Still by Donald Margulies. Emma Gruhl, an undergraduate Theatre Directing and Management major, will direct. Performances are October 22, 23, and 24 at 7:30 p.m. and October 26 at 2:00 p.m. in the Lab Theatre, third floor of the Temple Building at 12th & R Streets. There will be no performance on Saturday, October 25 due to a home football game. Tickets are a flat rate of $6.

Property Master Dennis Parrish to visit Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film

Lincoln, Neb.--Hollywood Property Master Dennis Parrish will be visiting the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film on Friday, Sept. 26. He will present an open forum for faculty, students and staff from 1:30-3 p.m. in the Temple Building Rms. 204-205.

Parrish is one of the most prolific property masters in the film industry over the past 50 years. He has 65 feature films to his credit since 1962.

Two UNL Carson School Faculty receive Silver Screen Award

UNL Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film Associate Professor of Film Rick Endacott and Assistant Professor of Film Steve Kolbe's instructional video "StageCraft: Building Flats and Platforms" has won a Silver Screen Award from the U.S. International Film and Video Festival.
