Nebraska Repertory Theatre presents 'The Glass Menagerie'

Lincoln, Neb.--The Nebraska Repertory Theatre presents Tennessee Williams’ timeless memory play, “The Glass Menagerie,” directed by the Rep’s Artistic Director Andy Park.

Performances are Nov. 6-17 in the Temple Building at 12th and R streets. For tickets and showtimes, visit http://www.nebraskarep.org.

The play follows the fragile Wingfield family:  Tom, an aspiring poet; his painfully shy sister Laura; and their mother Amanda, a faded Southern belle.

Percussion Ensemble prepares for PASIC with Oct. 29 concert

Lincoln, Neb.--The University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Percussion Ensemble has won the Percussive Arts Society’s International Percussion Ensemble Competition. They are one of three university percussion ensembles that will perform during the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC) Nov. 13-16 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

It’s the second win for the Percussion Ensemble, which won for the first time in 2016 and now again in 2019, in its first year of eligibility after winning previously.

UNL Opera premieres opera based on Sandoz novel on founding of Cozad

Lincoln, Neb.--The Glenn Korff School of Music is premiering a new opera “The Gambler’s Son” by composer Tyler Goodrich White and librettist Laura White. The opera is adapted from Mari Sandoz’s 1960 novel, “Son of the Gamblin’ Man,” which tells the story of the gambler and townsite promoter who founded Cozad, Nebraska, and of his family, particularly his young son, who became the world-famous artist and teacher known as Robert Henri.

Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist series presents two ceramic artists Oct. 30

Lincoln, Neb.—Ceramic artists Lauren Gallaspy and Sunkoo Yuh will present the next Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist & Scholar lecture this fall in the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s School of Art, Art History & Design.

Their lectures are Oct. 30 starting at 5:30 p.m. in Richards Hall Rm. 15. The lectures are free and open to the public. Their visit is co-sponsored by the UNL Clay Club.

Carson Center’s Fleming has work selected for Cedars-Sinai permanent collection

Lincoln, Neb.—Jesse Fleming, assistant professor of emerging media arts in the Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts at Nebraska, had his video work, titled “Jane the Baptist,” acquired by the permanent collection of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

Katz receives Reynolda Fellowship from Andrew W. Mellon Foundation

Lincoln, Neb.—University of Nebraska–Lincoln School of Art, Art History & Design Professor of Art History Wendy Katz has joined Reynolda House Museum of American Art as the recipient of the year-long Reynolda Fellowship, funded by a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

Theatrix opens season with 'Smokefall'

Lincoln, Neb.--Theatrix, the student-run theatre company within the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, begins its 2019-2020 season with Smokefall, written by Noah Haidle and directed by University of Nebraska student, Ethan Greenlee.

Performances are Oct. 17-19 at 7:30 p.m., and Oct. 20 at 2 p.m. All performances take place in the Lab Theatre in the Temple Building at 12th and R streets.

Souto’s ‘Diaspora’ opens Oct. 18 at Kiechel Fine Art

Lincoln, Neb.--School of Art, Art History & Design Director Francisco Souto opens his newest exhibition, “Diàspora” at the Kiechel Fine Art Gallery in Lincoln on Oct. 18.

The exhibition will have an opening reception on Friday, Oct. 18 from 6-9 p.m. at the gallery, which is located at 1208 O St. The exhibition runs Oct. 18-Nov. 22.

The work in the exhibition continues Souto’s response to the reality affecting his native land of Venezuela.

“Diàspora” means a dispersion of people from their original homeland.
