Nebraska Repertory Theatre begins season with 'The Legend of Georgia McBride'

Filmmakers Jeffery, Petersen present next IGNITE lecture Sept. 20
Lincoln, Neb.--Independent filmmakers Alexander Jeffery and Paul Petersen will present at the next IGNITE colloquium on Friday, Sept. 20 at 12:30 p.m. in the Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts Rm. 101. The event is free and open to the public.
IGNITE is a weekly colloquium for all Carson Center students, which will involve guest lectures, workshops and seminars around creative and professional development. The Center is located at 1300 Q St.

UNL Wind Ensemble opens season with ‘Time and Space’
LINCOLN, Neb.— The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music Wind Ensemble opens its 2019-2020 concert season with a program “Time and Space” designed for exploration on Wednesday, October 2 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall.

Cornhusker Marching Band heading to Illinois to perform at Saturday’s game
The Cornhusker Marching Band’s away performance trip this season will be this weekend at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign on Saturday, September 21. All 300 members of the CMB along with staff will travel to Champaign, Illinois for the 7 p.m. kickoff with the Fighting Illini.

GKSOM’s Hall presents percussion recital on final Sunday in September
LINCOLN, Neb.— Dave Hall presents a percussion recital comprised almost entirely of electro-acoustic works for solo percussion commissioned by Hall within the last several years at 3 p.m. on Sunday, September 29 in Kimball Recital Hall. The performance also includes Steven Mackey’s seminal solo marimba masterpiece “See Ya Thursday”. Hall will be performing across a wide percussive spectrum including drum set, marimba, vibraphone, steel drums, and multi-percussion.

New faculty begin this fall
The Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts welcomes the following new faculty this fall:
Katie Anania is assistant professor of art history in the School of Art, Art History & Design. She comes to Nebraska from Georgia College, where she was assistant professor of art history. Prior to her work at Georgia College, Anania was a 2018 Wallace Fellow at Villa I Tatti, the Harvard University Center for Italian Renaissance Studies in Florence, Italy.

Carson Film enjoys success on film festival circuit
Lincoln, Neb.--The most recent film in the Carson School Film Series, "The Healing of Harman," has enjoyed success with several awards and entry into several film festivals since its premiere last fall in Lincoln and Los Angeles.
“I had more than 20 mentees, including three students that I promoted to producers, and I would tell them ‘Awards are never the goal, but they get your work seen, which leads to other work,’” said Julie Uribe, a lecturer in the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film who served as executive producer and co-wrote the screenplay.
