The graphic arts major offers students the ability to learn about creative visual communication with the flexibility of a liberal arts degree. Foundational course work provides a solid base of knowledge in the principles and history of art and design. This degree allows more space for a double major or more studio art courses.

The graphic arts major will give you the base you need and the flexibility to adapt to your college experience.

Focus on Feedback

Classes are interactive. Work with your peers and faculty to get feedback on your projects and develop ideas.

Build-in Study Abroad

Take classes around the world, taught by our School of Art faculty. Previous faculty-led trips included London, Paris, Tokyo, Italy and Greece.

Color and Composition (ARTP 151)

Introduction to color theory and the use of color in design. Elements and principles of two-dimensional composition and design in both pigment and digital media.

Three-Dimensional Design (ARTP 152)

Three-dimensional studio practice based in research and observation. Context of ideas and meaning through transformation and manipulation of materials and processes.

Graphic Design I (GRPH 221)

Introduction to the field of visual communications. The use of the tools, materials and methods of the graphic designer.

Life Drawing (DRAW 202)

Drawing the figure from observation with a focus on anatomy, accuracy and the use of the figure in art.

Interaction Design I (GRPH 325)

Introduction to the fundamental concepts of user-centered design for web, tablet, mobile devices and screen-based media.

Renaissance to Modern Art (AHIS 102)

Survey of the history of western art from the Renaissance period to the twentieth century.
