Lincoln, Neb.--The Cornhusker Marching Band will hold its annual exhibition concert on a different day this year — Wednesday, Aug. 26, at 7 p.m. in Memorial Stadium. The concert is free and open to the public.
“We hope everyone will be able to join us Aug. 26 for our exhibition performance,” said Tony Falcone, senior lecturer, associate director of bands and director of the Cornhusker Marching Band. “We moved from our regular evening on the last day of our band camp to accommodate the Boys from Oklahoma concert in the stadium on Aug. 21. It will be the same Husker fun and spirit — just a different night.”
The annual concert will present highlights of the Cornhusker Marching Band’s preseason camp. The exhibition also includes the popular “drill down.”
“The drill down is a bit like Simon Says,” Falcone said. “Drum majors call out extemporaneous commands, and the band members must execute them without mistakes. Some of the commands are simple and straightforward, but some are meant to deceive. When a student makes a discernable error, and they’re caught at it, they’re ‘tapped out.’ This continues until one student remains.”
The home football season kicks off at 11 a.m. Sept. 5 with a game against Ohio at Memorial Stadium. The band will again perform at all seven home football games.
Fans attending the Cornhusker Marching Band exhibition concert should enter the stadium through Gates 3 and 11 (southwest and northwest entrances, respectively). Gates will open at 6 p.m. Paid parking is available at public garages downtown. Paid parking is available at public garages downtown.
