Nebraska Rep opens season with ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’
Lincoln, Neb.--The Nebraska Repertory Theatre opens its 2021-2022 season with William Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”
Directed by Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film Director and Nebraska Repertory Theatre Executive Director Christina Kirk, performances are Sept. 29-Oct. 10 in the Temple Building. It opens the Rep season, whose theme this season is “Journey.”

O’Connor returns to faculty after 10 years of success as dean
Lincoln, Neb.--Charles “Chuck” O’Connor has announced that he will step down Jan. 3, 2022 after serving for nearly a decade as dean of the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts. He plans to return to his full-time faculty role in the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film.

Elliott is one of 10 essayists for NEA Tech as Art report
Lincoln, Neb.--Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts Founding Director Megan Elliott was one of 10 essayists commissioned by the National Endowment of the Arts to accompany the publishing of the report “Tech as Art: Supporting Artists Who Use Technology as a Creative Medium.”
The report is the result of a two-year research initiative exploring the multifaceted creative practices of artists who engage with digital technologies.

Henson’s project receives Rural Drug Addiction Research Center funding
Lincoln, Neb.--Anna Henson, an assistant professor of practice in emerging media arts in the Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts, has received $25,000 for one year of support with the option for an additional $25,000 in second-year support from the Rural Drug Addiction Research Center for her pilot project.

Lincoln, Neb.--Nebraska Repertory Theatre announces its 2021-2022 Season. “Journey” is the season’s theme as each show is representative of either an exotic physical journey or a compelling emotional journey.
The season opens on Sept. 29 with Nebraska Rep Executive Director Christina Kirk making her Rep directorial debut with William Shakespeare’s popular comedy “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”

Carson Center earns Core Research Facility designation
Lincoln, Neb.--The Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts has received $625,000 in funding from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Nebraska Research Initiative (NRI) to establish itself as a Core Research Facility at Nebraska.
NRI funding is designed to facilitate and grow faculty research programs that have an impact in Nebraska and worldwide. The Core Research Facility will be called the Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts-Design and Innovation Core (DIC). The funding is over five years.

42 students selected for new Carson Center cohort
Lincoln, Neb.--Forty-two students, including 26 high school students and 16 transfer students, have been selected to join the latest cohort of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts.
This is the third and largest cohort for the center, which opened in the fall of 2019.

Nebraska Rep’s ‘Dracula: Mina’s Quest’ will be webcast May 6-9
Lincoln, Neb.--The Nebraska Repertory Theatre closes its season with Steven Dietz’s “Dracula: Mina’s Quest” May 6-9. The production will mark the Rep directorial debut of David Long, associate professor of theatre and head of the performance area in the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film.
“Dracula: Mina’s Quest” will have no in-person audience, due to the global pandemic. The performance will be webcast at 7:30 p.m. on May 6-8 and 2 p.m. on May 9. Tickets are free, but must be reserved at http://nebraskarep.org.
