Lincoln, Neb.--Nebraska Repertory Theatre announces its 2021-2022 Season. “Journey” is the season’s theme as each show is representative of either an exotic physical journey or a compelling emotional journey.
The season opens on Sept. 29 with Nebraska Rep Executive Director Christina Kirk making her Rep directorial debut with William Shakespeare’s popular comedy “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”
In October, “Something wicked this way comes,” as The Rep launches Lincoln’s newest haunted attraction with “ShakesFEAR at the Haunted Temple.” This immersive theatrical experience features a haunted forest, meddling fairies and other evil characters straight out of the Bard’s plays. “ShakesFEAR at the Haunted Temple” is poised to become an annual holiday tradition.
Our production of Nathan Alan Davis’ poetic coming-of-age story “Dontrell, Who Kissed the Sea” takes center stage in November. The piece is produced in collaboration with the St. Louis Black Repertory Theatre Company and is directed by their founding producing director Ron Himes.
Spring 2022 begins with an original piece, “The Way to the Way,” conceived and directed by Nebraska Rep’s Artistic Director Andy Park. Based on the ancient writings of Chinese philosopher Lao-Tzu, “The Way to the Way” features breathtaking visuals including large-scale puppetry.
In March, join us for a moving and original performance piece conceived and directed by Ron Himes in collaboration with students from the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film. “Traveling Shoes” is produced as part of our multi-year partnership with The Black Rep.
All good journeys must come to an end, and in April we find our way home to “Our Town,” Thornton Wilder’s classic American play. Produced with special permission from the Wilder estate, this production features the world premiere of a new score performed live to this poignant journey of the heart.
This year, Nebraska Repertory Theatre has initiated a special discounted season ticket for all University of Nebraska–Lincoln faculty and staff as well as continuing our special pricing for students and OLLI members. Tickets will be available soon at https://nebraskarep.org.
