Borne out of a groundbreaking $57 million partnership between the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts, the Johnny Carson Foundation, and numerous private industry partners, the Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts is a global destination for students and faculty who reside in the future. Our unique program creates “X-shaped graduates” who understand design, story, entrepreneurship and code. These core competencies give them ownership over their future and allow them to thrive in a changing, diverse, global environment.

Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film

The Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film is committed to the philosophy that prospective practitioners of theatre, film and emerging media arts must be provided with thorough education, training and practical skills for employment in industry and educational settings. Earn points for membership in Actors’ Equity Association (AEA helps negotiate wages, improve working conditions and provides benefits). Study abroad during the summer at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London, England. Collaborate with Emerging Media Arts majors and Dance majors inside the Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts. Our program is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre.

Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center

The Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center features two screens, state-of-the-art technology, a research library and film storage archive, offices, and a concessions stand. In it, we are able to show everything from silent movies to the most recent technologies, the new electronic (digital) cinema, and everything in between. Student tickets are just $5.

    The Lied Center for Performing Arts serves students and residents of the entire region by bringing the world's finest arts and entertainment to its stage. It offers major regional, national and international events. It also provides opportunities for Nebraska artists to perform and a teaching/training laboratory for performing arts departments at UNL.

The Rep, an Actors’ Equity Association professional theatre, is the state’s only professional regional theatre. It resides in the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film.
