Lincoln, Neb.--The UNL Symphony Orchestra presents a concert on Tuesday, March 11 at 7:30 p.m. in O’Donnell Auditorium at Nebraska Wesleyan University. The concert is free and open to the public.
The UNL Symphony Orchestra is under the direction of Tyler White, Professor of Conducting and Composition and Director of Orchestras. Ramon Araújo and Manuel Monge-Mata will also be conducting.
The concert will feature the winners of the undergraduate and graduate student solo competitions. Gwen Leuschen, timpani, and winner of the 2024-2025 Undergraduate Solo Competition, will perform on William Kraft’s “Concerto No. 1 for timpani and orchestra.” Daniel Herbener, piano, and winner of the 2024-2025 Graduate Solo Competition, will perform on Maurice Ravel’s “Piano Concerto in D major for the left hand and orchestra.”
The concert program also includes Jean Sibelius’ “Finlandia, Op. 26” and Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 8 in F major, Op. 93.”
A third soloist winner, Justin Payne, tenor, and winner of the 2024-2025 Graduate Solo Competition will perform with the UNL Symphony at its May 3 concert.
The UNL Symphony Orchestra is made up of students from across the university. The UNL Symphony maintains a national reputation for excellence, recognized by invitations to perform at national and regional conventions of music educators, and by four awards from the National Opera Association.
