Matthew Rush is a percussionist and educator from Meadville, Pennsylvania. He is currently serving as Interim Lecturer in Percussion for the 2022 – 23 academic year at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln, where he teaches Applied Percussion and directs the Percussion Ensemble and university steel band, Nebraska Steel. Prior to his appointment at UNL Dr. Rush served as Adjunct Professor of Percussion at Allegheny College in Meadville, PA and was on the percussion staff at Norwin High School in North Huntingdon, PA, where he assisted with drumline, percussion ensemble, and cultivated the largest private percussion lesson studio in the history of the school. He has also taught as a percussion director/assistant band director at schools in the Garland ISD in Garland, TX, and as percussion assistant and private lesson instructor at V.R. Eaton High School in Fort Worth, TX.

 

Matthew holds degrees from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln (DMA, 2018), Texas Christian University (MM, 2008), and Indiana University of Pennsylvania (BS Music Ed, 2006). He has presented at the Nebraska Music Educators Association conference and been a part of performances at the Texas Music Educators Association conference in San Antonio and Percussive Arts Society International Convention in Indianapolis. He has adjudicated contests in Texas, Nebraska, and Pennsylvania. Matthew is proud to perform on his Malletech Imperial Grand Marimba and Majestic Prophonic Walnut Concert Snare Drum.
