Dziedzic to present free public lecture Nov. 13
Erin Dziedzic, the curator and head of adult programs at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art in Kansas City will present a free public lecture on Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 5:30 p.m. in Richards Hall Rm. 15. Her lecture is titled "Thoughts on Contemporary Curating."

Clare Twomey to present free public lecture Nov. 11
British artist Clare Twomey will present a free public lecture on Monday, Nov. 11 at 5:30 p.m. in Richards Hall Rm. 15.
Twomey is a research fellow at the University of Westminster. Over the past 12 years, she has exhibited at the Victoria and Albert Museum, Tate, Crafts Council, Museum of Modern Art Kyoto Japan, the Eden Project and the Royal Academy of Arts.

Sayre to present the next AIA lecture Nov. 11 on the Ancient Andes
Matthew Sayre, Assistant Professor of Anthropology at the University of South Dakota, will present a lecture titled "Pilgrimage Across the Ancient Andes: From Machu Picchu to Chavin de Huantar," on Monday, Nov. 11 at 7:30 p.m. in Richards Hall Rm. 15. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Two exhibitions open Oct. 11 at Eisentrager-Howard Gallery
Two exhibitions open Oct. 11 at the Eisentrager-Howard Gallery in Richards Hall, in conjunction with the Midwest Society for Photographic Education (MWSPE) 2013 Regional Conference.
“Boundaries: The Permeability of Social Constructs” and “MWSPE Scholarship Winners Exhibition” will both be on display through Oct. 26 in the Gallery. Gallery hours are Monday-Friday, 12:30-4:30 p.m.

Graphic Designer Fella to present public lecture Sept. 24
Edward Fella, an artist and graphic designer whose work has had an important influence on contemporary typography in the U.S. and Europe, will present a free public lecture on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 5 p.m. in Woods Art Building Rm. 105.

UNL team uncovers more archeological treasures
Shoveling and sweeping to expose still-hidden portions of a 1,600-square-foot marble mosaic that dates to Roman times, a UNL archeological team this past summer unearthed a new treasure in southern Turkey.
Lying face down in more than a millennium of soil was a life-size marble head, the remnant of a sculpture of the goddess Aphrodite – still beautiful, though scarred by chips on its nose and face.
The sculpture’s body was missing, likely incinerated in a lime kiln many centuries ago.

Art and Art History to host Midwest photo conference
Hundreds of photographers will converge in Lincoln when the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Department of Art and Art History hosts the Midwest Society for Photographic Education (SPE) 2013 Conference Oct. 24-27.
Professor of Art Dana Fritz, who teaches photography at UNL, is co-chairing the conference, along with Larry Gawel, area head of photography at Metro Community College in Omaha.

UNL and Bemis Center announce major new prize for MFA graduates
The University of Nebraska–Lincoln's Department of Art and Art History and the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts in Omaha announced the inauguration of the Bemis Center Residency Prize for graduates from the UNL Master of Fine Arts program. The Residency Prize will be awarded annually to an outstanding MFA student graduating from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. All third-year MFA students are eligible to apply for the Residency Prize. UNL art and art history faculty will nominate students for consideration; the Bemis Center will determine the recipient.

Nebraska National Exhibition ends Sept. 27
The Department of Art and Art History will host the second annual Nebraska National Exhibition this Fall, featuring the categories of painting, drawing, and sculpture.
The exhibition opens on First Friday, Sept. 6 and continues through Sept. 27 in the Eisentrager-Howard Gallery in Richards Hall. Gallery hours are Monday-Friday 12:30-4:30 p.m.
A First Friday opening reception will be held on Friday, Sept. 6 from 6-8 p.m. in the gallery.

Blache honored by International Sculpture Center
Matthew Blache, who received his Master of Fine Arts in sculpture in May, was named a 2013 Outstanding Student Achievement in Contemporary Sculpture Honorable Mention from the International Sculpture Center (ISC).
More than 414 nominations were made from 159 colleges and universities worldwide.
