Chamber Singers to perform ‘Sing We and Chant It’

LINCOLN, Neb.— The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music’s Chamber Singers will perform “Sing We and Chant it” Masterworks from the Golden Age of Vocal Music on Sunday, October 22 at 3 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall.

To find some of the most exquisite music even written for the human voice, one need look no further than the vast amount of choral music written during the European Renaissance. Composers of the time drew upon enlightenment ideals in art and philosophy, imbuing their music with a heightened level of expressiveness and sensitivity. The invention of the printing press meant that their work could be disseminated and preserved, influencing the history of choral composition throughout the western world. By turns playful or serious, sacred or profane, this music has delighted the ears and stirred the passions of listeners and performers for nearly 500 years and continues to do so in the present day.

Directed by Matthew Oltman, the Chamber Singers is the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s premiere vocal chamber ensemble. A small choir, it is intended to provide the highest level of choral chamber performance experience for graduate and undergraduate singers at the Glenn Korff School of Music and throughout the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.

Tickets: General Admission $5; Students/Seniors $3.
