LINCOLN, Neb.— The Glenn Korff School of Music hosted its annual Honors Convocation on Thursday afternoon, April 26 in the Westbrook Recital Hall. The awards and honors that were announced included:

Dean's Award for Academic Excellence (for the highest-grade point average of any graduating senior in the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts in 2017) went this year to a music student - Anna Lee.

University Honors Program graduating seniors are:

Lauren Bydalek, Paige DeDecker, Laura Linder, Joseph Klinck, Nicole Shively

Seniors graduating With Distinction from the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts:

BreeAnna Gibbs, Emily Freeman, Laura Linder, Nicole Shively, Abigail Swanson

Seniors graduating With High Distinction from the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts:

Lauren Bydalek, Colleen Carney, Paige Dedecker, Moriah Hellstrom, James McLaughlin, Kennedy Rolfes, Shaylee Schroder, Cambria Watson

UNL UCARE Program award winners:

Sigma Alpha Iota (SAI) Collegiate Honor Award (Presented to a graduating senior who has made significant contributions to her chapter and school and demonstrated outstanding musicianship, scholarship, and service to the local chapter) – Laura Linder.

Sandfort Memorial Scholarship Award (Given in honor of Edith Kerr Sandfort, is a one-time award given to a music education applicant who has completed the sophomore field experience. Applicants’ portfolios containing a statement by the applicant and recommendations from the University Supervisor and the cooperating teacher are reviewed by the Music Education faculty and a winner is selected who, in the faculty’s judgment, possesses outstanding teaching potential) – Katelyn Hinderer.

Ida M. Vreeland Awards in Music (The Vreeland Awards have been made possible by the bequest of the late Francis William Vreeland, an artist and native Nebraskan. The bequest provides for the establishment of awards to be given to students in music, dance, art, and theater who have shown exceptional creative ability during the past academic year. Winners: undergraduate award in music, Ian Whillock; graduate award in music, Marat Sanatullov.

The Russ Swanson Outstanding Bandman Award is presented at the annual Band Banquet in mid-January. The winner this year was Paige DeDecker

Tous Scholarships (For three music majors who play a leadership role in the Cornhusker Marching Band) – Morgan Dennhardt, Vanessa Woolsey, Anthony McIntosh.

Hascall Scholarships (To two non-music majors for outstanding contributions to the Cornhusker Marching Band) – Rachel Hoffman, Laurel Preuit.

Hoyt Marching Band Scholarship (To three outstanding tuba players in the Cornhusker Marching Band) – Nathan McGahan, Nick Pavel, Ethan Millington.

Tony J. Kirkpatrick Memorial Scholarship (For a deserving percussionist involved in the athletic bands -- Cornhusker Marching Band and/or Big Red Express) – Austin Essman.

Duane and Laurine Zastrow Marching Band Awards (for one male and one female) - Alex Crowley, Miranda Finn.

Don and Carole Burt Vocal Excellence Scholarship (Awarded to a current student who will be a senior voice major next year. The recipient is selected by the UNL voice faculty and must be a student leader in good academic standing who has demonstrated excellent vocal ability --either classical, musical theater, or both -- and is an active participant in Glenn Korff School of Music activities and productions) – Victoria Handford.

Marvella W. Burmester Scholarships (Awarded to current students who are Nebraska residents majoring in vocal music) – Sarah Koch, Cooper Creal.

Leesa Crnogorac Scholarship (Awarded to a graduate of a Nebraska High School who is majoring in vocal music) – Matthew Carter.

Anne and William L. Porter Award for Creativity in Dance (Given annually to the dance major who has demonstrated the highest level of achievement and excellence) – Jordan Patt.

Ruth Diamond Levinson Dance Award winners (Honors outstanding dance majors) – BreeAnna Gibbs, Kelli Griffin.

F. Pace Woods Award (Awarded to either a graduate or an undergraduate student in music or dance who is a returning full time student, has a minimum GPA of 3.5, and has demonstrated academic and creative/scholarly excellence) – Brock Nutter.

Glenn Korff Distinguished Undergraduate and Graduate Artist/Scholar Awards are intended to recognize and reward excellence in performance and/or scholarship in the Glenn Korff School of Music. The winners of these prestigious awards are – Undergraduate: Alyssa Pracht; Graduate: Louis Claussen

Presser Scholarship Award (The most prestigious award given to an undergraduate student in the Glenn Korff School of Music. Each year, the Presser Foundation makes a scholarship grant to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln to be given to an outstanding music major at or after the end of his or her junior year. The student, selected by a vote of the Glenn Korff School of Music faculty, is to be designated as our “Presser Scholar.” It is intended to recognize outstanding and meritorious achievement in music.) – Chauncey Kleveland.

Also, honored at this event were the spring 2018 graduating students at all levels (undergraduate, master's, doctoral).
