LINCOLN, Neb.— The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music’s Symphony Orchestra Student Soloist Night (featuring winners of the 2018-19 Undergraduate and Graduate Solo Competitions) will take place on Thursday, March 14 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall.

The student soloists include Riley Beranek, Cello; William White, Trombone; Allison Gillespie, Soprano; Louis Raymond-Kolker, Double Seconds Steelpans; Kevin Madden, Tuba and Madeline Rogers, Piano. The performance will also feature highlights from Wagner’s Ring cycle. Tickets are General Admission $5; Students/Seniors $3.

”I am incredibly excited for the premiere of my concertino for steelpans ’Summer Springs’ with the UNL Symphony Orchestra,” Louis Raymond-Kolker said. ”I am so grateful for the opportunity to perform the work, and for the hard work that the orchestra has put into learning the piece. I absolutely cannot wait to share this music with the world for the first time.”

Riley Beranek, who will be playing a movement of a piece by Sergei Prokofiev, said, ”I'm grateful for this opportunity. This is my first time playing a solo with orchestra and I'm excited for the new experience.”

Allison Gillespie, the winner of the Undergraduate Competition, says, ”I'm looking forward to performing "Vilja Lied" with the UNL Symphony Orchestra because the orchestra brings such wonderful color and dimension to the aria. In particular, I love the shimmery quality of the strings in the refrain and the energetic buoyancy of the winds during the introduction. I am delighted to collaborate with such wonderful players and to work with such a generous and encouraging conductor as Dr. Tyler White.”
