LINCOLN, Neb.— The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music’s Philharmonia Chamber Orchestra will be performing music by Vivaldi, Haydn, and Walter Piston during its performance on Friday, April 7 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall. The program opens with the three brief, themed works by Vivaldi: the Sinfonia in B minor “at the Holy Sepulcre,” the Concerto Madrigalesco in D minor, and the Concerto in G major “alla Rustica.” Walter Piston’s sprightly, neoclassical Divertimento for Nine Instruments follows, and the concert concludes with Haydn’s powerful Symphony No. 44 in E minor (“Mourning’).

The Philharmonia Chamber Orchestra is a highly select instrumental ensemble that provides accompaniment annually to one production of UNL’s opera program, and performs the virtuoso concert repertoire of the 18th through 21st centuries written for smaller orchestral forces. The ensemble follows a rehearsal schedule approximating that of professional ensembles, preparing its performances in a small number of intensive rehearsals.

The performance is free and open to the public.
