Sapirstein uses 3-D tech to further study of Greek Architecture
Lincoln, Neb.--UNL's Philip Sapirstein is using modern technologies to advance research into ancient Greek architecture.
As part of UNL's Center for Digital Research in the Humanities, the assistant professor of art history has launched the "Digital Architecture Project." The project uses digital photography and computer software to generate detailed, 3-D models of Greek temples, beginning with the Temple of Hera, a sixth-century B.C. structure at Olympia, Greece.

Stewart contributes chapter to "Animals and Early Modern Identity" book
Lincoln, Neb.--Hixson-Lied Professor of Art History Alison Stewart contributed a chapter titled “Man’s Best Friend? Dogs and Pigs in Early Modern Germany” in the recently released book, “Animals and Early Modern Identity,” edited by Pia F. Cuneo and published by Ashgate.The book, including a mention of Stewart’s chapter, was recently reviewed in the Jan. 28 The Times Literary Supplement, London.

Lincoln Print Group to hold Print Sale Feb. 13-14
Lincoln, Neb.--The Lincoln Print Group will be having a Print Sale on Feb. 13-14 at Constellation Studios, 2055 O St., in Lincoln.Hours for the sale are Feb. 13 from 5-9 p.m. and Feb. 14 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
A variety of work made by University of Nebraska–Lincoln Department of Art and Art History faculty and students will be available for sale, including etchings, woodcuts, lithographs, screenprints, , woodcut printed t-shirts, handmade Valentines and artists’ books.

Arts & Architecture look for new Cast Ambassadors at Open Casting Calls
Lincoln, Neb.— The Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts and the College of Architecture are inviting all undergraduate students to audition for the 2015-2016 Arts & Architecture Cast on Feb. 20 and 27 from 3:30-6:30 p.m. in Richards Hall Rm. 17. The students who are selected will serve as brand ambassadors for the college. Cast ambassadors will promote pride and develop awareness of the college and its academic programs through social media, printed materials and special appearances.

Department of Art and Art History faculty, staff featured in next exhibition at Eisentrager-Howard Gallery
Lincoln, Neb.—Twenty-six faculty and staff members from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Department of Art and Art History will show their work in a variety of media in the “Faculty and Staff Exhibition,” opening Jan. 21 at the Eisentrager-Howard Gallery in Richards Hall.The exhibition continues through Feb. 6 and will conclude with a First Friday closing reception on Feb. 6 from 5-7 p.m. in the gallery.

Students in Color and Composition class recreate famous artworks for visually impaired
Lincoln, Neb.--Students in Associate Professor of Art Sandra Williams’ Color and Composition class this Fall completed a project to recreate works of art in a tactual manner to be displayed at the Nebraska Center for the Education of Children Who Are Blind or Visually Impaired (NCECBVI) in Nebraska City, Nebraska.The project challenged students to think about their art in a whole new manner.

Printmaking graduate student receives Caxton Club Grant
Lincoln, Neb.--Keith Graham, a second-year Master of Fine Arts student with an emphasis in printmaking in the Department of Art and Art History, has received a Caxton Club Grant for his upcoming book arts project.The Caxton Club of Chicago was founded in 1895 by 15 Chicago bibliophiles, who desired to support the publication of fine books in the spirit of the prevailing arts and crafts movement. Today they sponsor bibliophile events, often in collaboration with the Newberry Library.

Katz rediscovers 1842 Walt Whitman poem
Lincoln, Neb.--Associate Professor of Art History Wendy Katz has rediscovered a new poem by Walt Whitman. While researching art criticism in the penny newspapers, as a Smithsonian Senior Fellow in Washington, D.C., she found a poem in the June 23, 1842, issue of the “New Era,” by “W.W.”The poem, “To Bryant, the Poet of Nature,” addresses William Cullen Bryant, an American romantic poet and editor of the New York Evening Post.
