Entries due June 1 for Nebraska National Exhibition

Lincoln, Neb.--Entries are open through June 1 for the Department of Art and Art History's fourth annual Nebraska National Undergraduate Juried Art Exhibition.

The exhibition, which will run Sept. 4-25 in the Eisentrager-Howard Gallery, features the work of the best undergraduate students artists from across the country.

Each year different media disciplines are featured, and in 2015 the exhibition will feature sculpture, painting and drawing.

Next AIA Lecture features UNL's Sapirstein

Lincoln, Neb.—University of Nebraska–Lincoln Assistant Professor of Art History Philip Sapirstein will present the final Archaeological Institute of America (AIA) lecture of the 2014-2015 season on Monday, April 13 at 7:30 p.m. in Love Library Rm. 102 on the UNL city campus.

The lecture is free and open to the public.

MFA Thesis Exhibitions open April 6

Lincoln, Neb.—Seven graduating Master of Fine Arts students will present their MFA Thesis Exhibitions in three exhibitions between April 6-24 in the Eisentrager-Howard Gallery in Richards Hall.

The first MFA Thesis Exhibition runs April 6-10 and features the work of Avi Arenfeld, Allen Morris and Adrienne Smart. A reception will be held April 10 from 5-7 p.m. in the gallery.

The second MFA Thesis Exhibition runs April 13-17 and features the work of Hiromi Iyoda and Gabrielle Valdez. A reception will be held April 17 from 5-7 p.m. in the gallery.

UNL Ceramics Alum Bogus named NCECA Emerging Artist

Lincoln, Neb.—David Bogus, who graduated from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln with a Master of Fine Arts in 2004, is one of six artists named as 2015 Emerging Artists by the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA).

Dezsö to present visiting artist lecture March 10

Lincoln, Neb.—Andrea Dezsö, associate professor of art at Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts, and maintains studios in New York City and Western Massachusetts, will present a free public lecture on Tuesday, March 10 at 5:30 p.m. in Richards Hall Rm. 15.

Dezsö is a visual artist who works across a broad range of media including drawing, painting, artist's books, embroidery, cut paper, animation, sculpture, site-specific installation and public art.

Undergraduate Studio Art Competition Exhibition runs March 16-27

Lincoln, Neb.—The annual University of Nebraska–Lincoln Undergraduate Studio Art Competition exhibition opens March 16 and continues through March 27 at the Eisentrager-Howard Gallery.

The exhibition includes the artwork of 55 undergraduate students who have been enrolled in a studio art class in the Department of Art and Art History at UNL within the last 12 months.

Lincoln, Neb.--The Department of Art and Art History is again offering a class and residency opportunity for those interested in learning and working at Cedar Point Biological Station near Ogallala, Nebraska, this summer.

Eco-Printing into Bookmaking (ARTP183, an ACE 7 course) will be taught by Cather Professor of Art Karen Kunch June 8-19.

The course is a creative and immersive two-week field school art experience.

Artstream Ceramic Library visits Department of Art and Art History

Lincoln, Neb.--The Artstream Ceramic Library is visiting the Department of Art and Art History through March 18. The library is located in Richards Hall Rm. 120.

The mission of this social-outreach project is to connect contemporary functional ceramics with ordinary people. Similar in structure to a literature-based library, the ceramic library loans out unique, handmade cups made by 13 nationally known potters for a period of seven days.

Tulane's Harl to present next AIA Lecture on March 9

Lincoln, Neb.--Kenneth Harl, professor of ancient history at Tulane University, will present a lecture titled “The Shrine of Zeus and Cybele at Aezanis:  The Hellenization and Romanization of Phrygian Cults” on Monday, March 9 at 7:30 p.m. in Love Library Rm. 102.

His lecture is free and open to the public.

UNL Printmaking alums featured in March exhibition at Prescott Gallery

Lincoln, Neb.-- Prescott Gallery presents "Pattern Recognition," a group exhibition of printmaking, drawing and installation by alumni from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln printmaking program.  Artists included in the exhibition are Susan Belau (MFA 1999), Dominique Ellis (BFA 2005), Jennifer Ghormley (MFA 2006), Sean P. Morrissey (MFA 2011) and Trudie Teijink (MFA 2010).
