Lincoln, Neb.-- Prescott Gallery presents "Pattern Recognition," a group exhibition of printmaking, drawing and installation by alumni from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln printmaking program.  Artists included in the exhibition are Susan Belau (MFA 1999), Dominique Ellis (BFA 2005), Jennifer Ghormley (MFA 2006), Sean P. Morrissey (MFA 2011) and Trudie Teijink (MFA 2010).

Working with a variety of printmaking processes, these artists use artificial approximations and patterns to reference the natural world. Belau’s etchings from the series "Strata" focus on the natural environment of the California coast.  By simplifying form and color, any recognizable elements become geometric shapes of light and shadow.  In her woodcuts and monoprints, Ellis uses abstract patterns, textures, colloquial speech, and vibrant colors to reimagine abandoned spaces in the urban landscape of Philadelphia.  Ghormley’s installation, "Flow," is comprised of many individual pieces of paper, each printed, folded and sewn.   Her piece reflects on formations within nature including the undulation of water, movement of clouds, or a flock of birds flying in unison.  Morrissey utilizes repetitive visual patterns of suburban spaces with emphasis on decorative embellishments and mundane façades as markers of landscape consumption.  Teijink works with digital imagery and drawing to create replications of patterns in nature.  Location markers are absent, leaving the viewer to understand a sense of place as an abstract idea.

Pattern Recognition will be open from March 7- 28 with a reception on March 7 from 5-7 p.m. Gallery hours are Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m.- 4 p.m.

The Prescott Gallery Shop will feature prints by University of Nebraska–Lincoln undergraduate student Abbey Ahmed. Additionally, ceramics, paintings and photographs by Phil Perry will be available.  Proceeds from the sale of Perry’s work will be donated to CenterPointe, a Lincoln non-profit.
