High school juniors invited to apply for Nebraska Young Artist Awards

Lincoln, Neb.--The Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts is seeking applications for the 19th annual Nebraska Young Artist Awards.

The awards recognize 11th-grade students from Nebraska who are gifted and talented in the areas of visual art, dance, music, theater, and film and new media. These students exemplify the pinnacles of creativity in one of the fine and performing arts.

'Hey, Kids! Comics!" Exhibition on display through Oct. 23

Lincoln, Neb.--The exhibition “Hey, Kids! Comics!” opens Oct. 9 at the Eisentrager-Howard Gallery in Richards Hall and continues through Oct. 23. An opening reception will be held on Friday, Oct. 9 from 5-7 p.m. in the gallery.

“Hey, Kids! Comics!” is curated by Richard Graham and Bob Hall. Graham is teaching “A History of Comics,” and Hall, a current graduate student and well-known comic artist, is teaching Sequential Drawing.

Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist David Kramer presents public lecture Oct. 1

Lincoln, Neb.--The Department of Art and Art History welcomes Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist David Kramer. Kramer will present a free public lecture on Thursday, Oct. 1 at 5:30 p.m. in Richards Hall Rm. 218.

Kramer has exhibited throughout North America, Europe and the Middle East. His videos were recently included in Stand Up! at Muse du Pompidou in Paris, and his recent solo show Kramerica! opened two weeks ago at Galerie Tanit in Munich. His videos and Sculptures have been exhibited at both the Whitney Museum and the Brooklyn Museum in New York City.

Ceramics alum is part of Omaha North Hills Pottery Tour Oct. 3-4

Lincoln, Neb.--Amy Smith (MFA 2000) is among the ceramic artists featured in the Omaha North Hills Pottery Tour, an annual event featuring 18 local and national clay artists with stops at four working studios.

Easily done in a day, pottery tourists can meet up with nationally recognized clay artists and their works at four stops located between Omaha and Herman, Nebraska. The tour runs Oct. 3 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Oct. 4 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Hixson-Lied Visiting Artists in Ceramics to present lectures Sept. 22

Lincoln, Neb.--The Department of Art and Art History's Clay Club, with support from the Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist Series, presents three emerging artists in ceramics as guest artists: Bri Murphy, Jana Evans and Lauren Karle. The three artists will give consecutive lectures beginning at 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 22 in Richards Hall Rm. 218. The lectures are free and open to the public.

Nebraska National Exhibition opens Sept. 4 at Eisentrager-Howard Gallery

Lincoln, Neb.—The University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Department of Art and Art History announces the fourth annual Nebraska National Undergraduate Juried Art Exhibition. The exhibition will feature the work of the best undergraduate student artists from across the country.
 
The exhibition opens Sept. 4 and continues through Sept. 25 at the Eisentrager-Howard Gallery in Richards Hall. There will be a First Friday opening reception on Sept. 4 from 5-7 p.m. with the awards announced at 6 p.m.

Design+Social Justice Symposium is Sept. 15-16

Lincoln, Neb.--The graphic design program in the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Department of Art and Art History is hosting a symposium titled “Design + Social Justice” on Sept. 15-16. All events are free and open to the public.

The events and exhibitions of the symposium will highlight the visual communications, stories and portraits of revolutionary social movements and will examine how graphic design is a tool for organizing and inspiring people to act.

Kunc's work featured in 'Art in Print'

Lincoln, Neb.--Cather Professor of Art Karen Kunc's work, "Oscillation Shift" (2015) was selected as the Prix de Print and featured in an essay in the latest issue of Art in Print (Vol. 5, No. 2).

The Prix de Print is a bimonthly competition, open to all subscribers of the magazine, in which a single work is selected by an outside juror to be the subject of a brief essay. This month's juror was David Storey.

"Oscillation Shift" is a color reduction woodcut print, printed and published by Kunc at her Constellation Studios in Lincoln.

Alumni Exhibition continues through Aug. 7 at Eisentrager-Howard Gallery

Lincoln, Neb.—Forty-three alumni from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Department of Art and Art History will show their work this summer in the exhibition “UNL Alumni Artists 1970-1973” in the Eisentrager-Howard Gallery in Richards Hall.

The exhibition opens May 18 and continues through Aug. 7 in the gallery, which is located on the first floor of Richards Hall. Visitors can stop by Rm. 120 of Richards Hall Monday-Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. for access to the gallery.
