OSU's Derr named new chairman of Department of Art and Art History

Lincoln, Neb.—Robert Ladislas Derr, associate professor of art, undergraduate chair and photography area coordinator at The Ohio State University, has been named the new Chairman of the Department of Art and Art History at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. Derr will begin his tenure at UNL on July 1.

Graphic design students work on displays for Water for Food Conference

Lincoln, Neb.--The Advanced Graphic Design and Typography II classes from the graphic design program in the Department of Art and Art History presents "Impetus--an exhibition of visual communications about Water, Food, Fuel and a changing environment." The exhibition runs concurrently with the University of Nebraska–Lincoln's Water for Food Institute's Global Conference happening now at Nebraska Innovation Campus.

Stewart discovers two previously unpublished documents from German artist Beham

Lincoln, Neb.--Hixson-Lied Professor of Art History Alison Stewart has discovered two previously unpublished documents from Renaissance painter-printmaker Sebald Beham, during her research in Frankfurt, Germany.

Stewart received a Fulbright Senior Lecturing/Research award to teach and complete research at the University of Trier in Germany in 2014. She received a UNL Layman Award and Hixson-Lied Endowment Research grant for additional research in Frankfurt in 2014 and 2015.

Spring 2016 Clay Club and Photo Club Sales

Lincoln, Neb.--The Department of Art and Art History is hosting two sales this weekend, the UNL Clay Club Spring Sale and Raffle and the UNL Fine Art Photo Club's Print Sale.

• The UNL Clay Club's Spring 2016 Sale and Raffle will be April 29-30 in Richards Hall Rm. 118.

Hours for the sale are April 29 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and April 30 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The sales will include works of art created by graduate students, undergraduate students, alumni and faculty representing a broad range of aesthetics, techniques and concepts.

Capstone Exhibition opens May 2

Lincoln, Neb.--The Capstone Exhibition will be on display May 2-6 in the Eisentrager-Howard Gallery. This exhibition features the work of graduating undergraduate candidates for studio art degrees in the Department of Art and Art History.

A closing reception will be held on Friday, May 6 from 5-7 p.m. in the gallery with awards announced at 6 p.m.

MFA Thesis Exhibition III opens April 18

Lincoln, Neb.--The final MFA Thesis Exhibition III runs April 18-22 in the Eisentrager-Howard Gallery in Richards Hall. A closing reception will be held April 22 from 5-7 p.m. in the gallery.

The third MFA Thesis Exhibition features the work of Amanda Breitbach, Keith Graham and Shalya Marsh.

Sokolow to present next Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist lecture April 28

Lincoln, Neb.--Deb Sokolow will present the next lecture of the Hixson-Lied Visiting Artists & Scholars Lecture Series on Thursday, April 28 at 5:30 p.m. in Richards Hall Rm. 15 on the University of Nebraska–Lincoln city campus. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Sokolow is a Chicago-based artist and a lecturer at Northwestern University. She is a 2012 recipient of an Artadia Grant and has participated in residencies nationally and internationally.

"The Female Complex" at the MEDICI Gallery April 18-22

Lincoln, Neb.--“The Female Complex” will be on display in the MEDICI Gallery in Richards Hall from April 18-22.

The exhibition will be curated and installed by Kristin Mahan as part of her final project for her gallery management class.

A closing reception will be held on Friday, April 22 from 5-7 p.m. in the gallery, which is located on the first floor of Richards Hall.
