Parallel Visions exhibit includes 2 from School of Art, Art History & Design

Lincoln, Neb.—Two artists from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s School of Art, Art History & Design will present their work at Parallel Visions in February in an exhibition titled “Crosswise Arrangements.”
 
As February is African American History Month, Sculptor and alumnus Nathan Murray (B.F.A. 2009) and 2nd year graduate student in Photography Zora J. Murff present an exhibition Feb. 3-10 that takes a critical look at race relations in America today, while also acknowledging the necessity for empathy and communication.

Dimitri Nakassis to present next AIA Lecture Jan. 30

Lincoln, Neb.—Dimitri Nakassis, Professor of Classics at the University of Colorado-Boulder and a MacArthur Fellow, will present a lecture titled “Digitizing Prehistory:  Aegean Script in the 21st Century” on Monday, Jan. 30 at 5:30 p.m. in Love Library Rm. 102.

Part of the Archaeological Institute of America Lincoln-Omaha Chapter’s lecture series, the lecture is free and open to the public.

Art students present 'Let There Be Light' at the Lux Center in January

Lincoln, Neb.— Eighteen students from University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s School of Art, Art History & Design Associate Professor of Art Sandra Williams’ studio art foundation and drawing courses will be presenting their work in an exhibition titled “Let There Be Light” at the Lux Center for the Arts in January.

 

“The exhibition is about spreading our inner light, knowledge and positivity as artists to the world,” said Jamaica Wilson, a junior art major from Las Vegas, Nevada. “We just hope to spread happiness to everyone through our passions to create.”

UNL Capstone Exhibition on display Dec. 9-16

Lincoln, Neb.—The Capstone Exhibition will be on display Dec. 9-16 in the Eisentrager-Howard Gallery in Richards Hall at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.

This exhibition features the work of graduating undergraduate candidates for studio art degrees from the School of Art, Art History & Design.

A closing reception will be held on Friday, Dec. 16 from 5-7 p.m. in the gallery with awards announced at 6 p.m.

Hixson-Lied College alumni award nominations are due Dec. 9

Lincoln, Neb.--The Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts is accepting nominations from alumni and friends for our Alumni Board awards to be given to outstanding alumni, students and supporters of the college.

All awards will be presented at the College Honors Day program on Saturday, April 22, 2017.

The nomination form and additional information is available at https://go.unl.edu/fpaalumawards. Nominations are due by Friday, Dec. 9, 2016. A list of previous recipients is also available at the website.

Student art sales are Dec. 9-10

Lincoln, Neb.— The School of Art, Art History & Design is hosting the Clay Club’s Fall Sale and Raffle and the Photo Club's Photo Sale on Dec. 9-10 in Richards Hall.

 

Hours for both sales are Friday, Dec. 9 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 10 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Both sales are in Richards Hall. The pottery sale will take place in Rm. 118, while the Photo Sale will take place in the conference room in Rm. 121 and the MEDICI Gallery.

Lincoln, Neb.—The Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts is seeking applications for the 20th annual Nebraska Young Artist Awards.

The Nebraska Young Artist Awards annually recognize 11th grade students from Nebraska who are gifted and talented in the areas of visual art, dance, music, theatre, and film and new media. These students exemplify the pinnacles of creativity in one of the fine and performing arts.
