Fischer, Hawley perform in Zimbabwe for arts festival

Lincoln, Neb.--Research Associate Professor of Violin Rebecca Fischer and her husband, Anthony Hawley, a Lecturer in the School of Art, Art History & Design, performed and participated in the Hirare International Arts Festival (HIFA) in Zimbabwe, Africa, in May.

Fischer and Hawley received a grant from the Hixson-Lied Endowment to fund their travel to HIFA.

“It made it possible for us to do it,” Fischer said.

Alumni Exhibition on display this summer in Eisentrager-Howard Gallery

Lincoln, Neb.--Alumni from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s School of Art, Art History & Design will show their work this summer in the exhibition “Nebraska Alumni Artists 1979-1982” in the Eisentrager-Howard Gallery in Richards Hall.

The exhibition opened May 22 and continues through Aug. 4 in the gallery, which is located on the first floor of Richards Hall. Visitors can stop by Rm. 120 of Richards Hall Monday-Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. for access to the gallery.

Headid wins first Franco Fund Scholarship

Lincoln, Neb--Jake Headid, who graduated in May with a studio art degree with an emphasis in graphic design from the School of Art, Art History & Design, won the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s first Franco Fund Scholarship.

In recognition of Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Juan Franco’s final year, the Character Council created this new $1,000 Franco Fund Scholarship, which will be awarded annually to outstanding students of integrity who have given their time to philanthropic organizations.

Fund-raiser set for May 8 for archaeological excavations in Turkey

Lincoln, Neb.-- The University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s School of Art, Art History & Design is hosting a special event to help raise funds for the archaeological excavation of Antiochia ad Cragum in Turkey.

The event is Monday, May 8 from 7-9 p.m. in the Eisentrager-Howard Gallery in Richards Hall. Admission is free and open to the public. Information on how to make a contribution to the excavation project through the University of Nebraska Foundation will be provided that evening.

Capstone Exhibition opens May 1

Lincoln, Neb.--The University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s 2017 Spring Capstone Exhibition will be on display May 1-5 in the MEDICI Gallery, Eisentrager-Howard Gallery and the surrounding hallway on the first floor of Richards Hall.

This exhibition features the work of 30 graduating Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Fine Arts majors in studio art from the School of Art, Art History and Design. Each student has written a statement to accompany their works, and those will be on view as well in three binders—one in the Eisentrager-Howard Gallery and two in the hallway.

Nebraska art alum Griess accepted into prestigious MFA program

Lincoln, Neb.--Neil Griess (B.F.A. 2011) has been accepted into Stanford University’s Master of Fine Arts program. Only five graduate students are admitted into the program each year, and Griess received full tuition and a salary as a teaching assistant.

“I was at work, and I kind of missed the first call, but I had an idea of what the nature of the call was,” Griess said. “When I got the call, it was very exciting, and I knew that would be the option that I would go for.”

Spring 2017 student art sales are April 28-29

Lincoln, Neb.— The School of Art, Art History & Design is hosting the Clay Club’s Spring Sale and Raffle and the Photo Club's Photo Sale on April 28-29 in Richards Hall.

Hours for the Clay Club sale are Friday, April 28 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, April 29 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Hours for the Photo Sale are Friday and Saturday, April 28-29 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Both sales are in Richards Hall. The pottery sale will take place in Rm. 118, while the Photo Sale will take place in the conference room in Rm. 121.

Nebraska alumnus and photographer McFarland presents Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist Lecture April 20

Lincoln, Neb.--Photographer and University of Nebraska–Lincoln Alumnus Lawrence McFarland will present the next lecture of the Hixson-Lied Visiting Artists & Scholars Lecture Series on Thursday, April 20 at 5:30 p.m. in Richards Hall Rm. 15. The lecture is free and open to the public.

The School of Art, Art History & Design’s Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist & Scholar Lecture Series brings notable artists, scholars and designers to UNL each semester to enhance the education of students.
