MEDICI exhibition opens Nov. 4; fund-raiser is Nov. 17

Lincoln, Neb.—The annual MEDICI exhibition will be on display Nov. 4-17 at the Eisentrager-Howard Gallery in Richards Hall, culminating in their annual fund-raiser Nov. 17.

 

The exhibition previews the works available for the art sale and silent auction at the fund-raising event. Art by Nebraska-educated and supporting artists will be sold to purchase new equipment and improve facilities in the School of Art, Art History & Design.

Nebraska ceramics alumni featured in exhibition

Lincoln, Neb.—“Nebraska Ceramic Alumni Exhibition” will be on display in the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Eisentrager-Howard Gallery from Oct. 7-21.

 

A First Friday reception will be held on Friday, Oct. 7 from 5-7 p.m. in the gallery. The reception is free and open to the public.

 

The exhibition consists of artworks from 35 ceramics alumni of the former UNL Department of Art & Art History. It was organized to coincide with the American Craft Council Conference, “Presence Tense,” that will occur Oct. 13-15 at Kaneko in Omaha.

Photographer Ron Jude presents ‘Those Are Not Mountains You See’ Oct. 11

Lincoln, Neb.--Photographer Ron Jude will present the next lecture of the Hixson-Lied Visiting Artists & Scholars Lecture Series, titled “Those Are Not Mountains You See,” on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 5:30 p.m. in Sheldon Museum of Art’s auditorium on the University of Nebraska–Lincoln city campus. The lecture is free and open to the public.

 

Jude’s visit is sponsored by Sheldon Museum of Art and the Hixson-Lied Visiting Artists & Scholars Lecture Series.

Ceramics graduate student assists porcelain artist Yasuda in China

Lincoln, Neb.--“There are lots of times when in ceramics you find somebody’s work that you admire, somebody you’re curious about. But the experience of being able to go and be with them is something, I think, is so rare. I cherish every moment I was able to spend time with Takeshi in that close proximity,” said Patrick Kingshill.

New CAST announced for Hixson-Lied College

Lincoln, Neb.--The Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts announces its 2016-2017 CAST.

The six members of the CAST will share their stories with prospective students this year through online videos, social media and special appearances. They also serve as Hixson-Lied College Student Ambassadors.

Souto's 'A Memory in Peril' exhibition responds to his native Venezuela

Lincoln, Neb.—University of Nebraska–Lincoln Professor of Art Francisco Souto opens a solo exhibition titled “A Memory in Peril” at the Kiechel Fine Art Gallery in Lincoln on Sept. 16.

The exhibition runs Sept. 16-Nov. 1 at the gallery, located at 1208 O St. An opening reception will be held on Friday, Sept. 16 from 6-9 p.m.

“A Memory in Peril” is a compilation of works in response to the current reality that is affecting Souto’s native land of Venezuela.

Lincoln, Neb.--Photographer Deborah Luster and Ceramist Shoko Teruyama will give consecutive public lectures as the first speakers in the Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist & Scholar Lecture Series on Thursday, Sept. 15 at 5:30 p.m. in Westbrook Music Building Rm. 119 on the University of Nebraska city campus.
 
The Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist & Scholar Lecture Series of the School of Art, Art History & Design brings notable artists, scholars and designers to campus each semester to enhance the education of students.

UNL Graphic design exhibition "Impetus" to have closing reception Sept. 14

Lincoln, Neb.--A closing reception for the exhibition “Impetus” will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 14 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. in the 2nd floor link at Nebraska Innovation Campus. In addition, guided tours of Nebraska Innovation Studio (the Maker Space) will be available at 5 and 6 p.m.

“This is a terrific time to get out to Nebraska Innovation Campus and explore this fabulous new facility and discover tools to create with,” said Assistant Professor of Graphic Design Stacy Asher.
