MFA Thesis Exhibitions run April 3-21

Lincoln, Neb.—Eight graduating Master of Fine Arts students from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s School of Art, Art History & Design will present their MFA Thesis Exhibitions in three exhibitions on display between April 3-21 in the Eisentrager-Howard Gallery in Richards Hall.

The first MFA Thesis Exhibition runs April 3-7 and features the work of Larry Buller, Rana Young and Michael Villarreal. A reception will be held April 7 from 5-7 p.m.

Alumni Board awards announced

Lincoln, Neb.--The Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts Alumni Board has selected the recipients of this year’s Alumni Board Awards. The awards will be presented at the College’s Honors Day Dinner on Saturday, April 22. The dinner is by invitation only.

The Alumni Achievement Awards honor alumni from each academic area of the college who have demonstrated outstanding achievement and overall professional excellence.

Two forensic archaeology lectures to be presented by Staffordshire University's Sturdy Colls

Lincoln, Neb.—Dr. Caroline Sturdy Colls of Staffordshire University (U.K.) and one of the foremost forensic archaeologists in the world, will present two public lectures at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in April on her work at the Treblinka death camp in Poland.

Hoff receives grant from Merops Foundation for excavation in Turkey

Lincoln, Neb.—Hixson-Lied Professor of Art History Michael Hoff received a $30,000 grant from The Merops Foundation to support the Antiochia at Cragum Excavation in Turkey this summer.

“I was gratified to received the grant and somewhat relieved as it represents $30,000 toward our excavation fund for this coming season,” Hoff said. “And yet there’s still more work to be done in order to come up with our goal of about $60,000 to run the season this summer.”

2017 Nebraska Young Artist Award winners announced

Lincoln, Neb.--The University of Nebraska–Lincoln Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts has announced the winners of the 20th annual Nebraska Young Artist Awards.

The Nebraska Young Artist Awards annually recognize 11th grade students from Nebraska who are gifted and talented in the areas of visual art, dance, music, theatre, and film and new media. These students exemplify the pinnacles of creativity in one of the fine and performing arts.

Nebraska Young Artist Awards/Statewide High School Invitational runs March 10-24

Lincoln, Neb.—The “Nebraska Young Artist Awards/Statewide High School Invitational” exhibition opens Friday, March 10 at the Eisentrager-Howard Gallery in Richards Hall.

The exhibition, which is part of the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts’ Nebraska Young Artist Awards’ visual arts component and sponsored by the School of Art, Art History & Design, runs March 10-24.
