Studio Potter Steven Rolf is next Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist

Lincoln, Neb.--Studio Potter Steven Rolf will present the next lecture of the Hixson-Lied Visiting Artists & Scholars Lecture Series on Tuesday, Feb. 23 at 5:30 p.m. in Richards Hall Rm. 15 on the University of Nebraska–Lincoln city campus. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Rolf lives and works as a studio potter in River Falls, Wisconsin, creating one-of-a-kind functional pots. His work reflects an ongoing search to unite his ideas with the generosity and the intimacy that the functional pot offers.

Next AIA Lecture features Virginia's Tyler Jo Smith on Feb. 22

Lincoln, Neb.—The Lincoln-Omaha Society of the Archaeological Institute of America presents a lecture by Tyler Jo Smith of the University of Virginia and one of the foremost experts in America on Greek vase painting, on Monday, Feb. 22 at 7:30 p.m. in Rm. 102 of Bessey Hall on the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s city campus. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Her lecture is titled “From Hamilton to Hercules:  Greek Vases in Popular Culture” and will discuss modern perception of ancient Greek vases.

Hixson-Lied College seeks new CAST ambassadors at open casting calls

Lincoln, Neb.--The Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts is inviting all undergraduate students to audition for the 2016-2017 CAST on Feb. 18-19 from 3-6 p.m. in 103 Woods Art Building. Students should sign up for an interview timeslot at https://go.unl.edu/fpacast.

The six students who are selected will serve as brand ambassadors for the college. CAST ambassadors will promote pride and develop awareness of the college and its academic programs through videos, social media, printed materials and special appearances.

Two photography students win SPE Student Awards for Innovations in Imaging

Lincoln, Neb.--Printmaker Althea Murphy-Price will present the first lecture of the spring Hixson-Lied Visiting Artists & Scholars Lecture Series on Thursday, Feb. 4 at 5:30 p.m. in Richards Hall Rm. 15 on the University of Nebraska–Lincoln city campus. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Murphy-Price received her M.A. in printmaking and painting from Purdue University and her M.F.A. in printmaking from the Tyler School of Art at Temple University in Philadelphia.
