Visiting Artist series welcomes writer Danny Fingeroth

Lincoln, Neb.--The Hixson-Lied Visiting Artists & Scholars series welcomes writer and editor Danny Fingeroth.

Fingeroth will present a free public lecture titled "Why Superheroes? Why Now? Or What Are the Avengers Avenging, Anyway?" on Wednesday, Oct. 28 at 5:30 p.m. in Richards Hall Rm. 15.

Fingeroth was a longtime writer and editor for Marvel Comics, where he worked on characters including Spider-Man, Iron Man, and the Avengers. Danny has also written comics for anthologies including Studs Terkel’s Working and Yiddishkeit. He was the creator and editor of Write Now magazine, the premier publication for comics and pop culture writers, and, with Mike Manley, wrote How to Create Comics From Script to Print. He is also the author of The Rough Guide to Graphic Novels and Superman on the Couch: What Superheroes Really Tell Us About Ourselves and Our Society.

Fingeroth has taught and spoken on comics at institutions including New York University, The New School, Columbia University, the Smithsonian Institution, the University of Oregon, Brooklyn College, the San Diego Comic Con, and the MiMaster Art Institute in Milan. He was Director of Education at the Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art (MoCCA) in New York, and currently serves as a programming consultant, organizing and moderating panels and events with creators and academics for Wizard World Comics Conventions.
