Applications now open for Bachelor of Fine Arts in Emerging Media Arts, faculty positions
Lincoln, Neb.--Applications are now open for the new Bachelor of Fine Arts in Emerging Media Arts at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s new Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts, which opens Fall 2019. New faculty positions are also open for applications.
“We are searching for future creative leaders,” said Megan Elliott, founding director of the Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts. “The new Bachelor of Fine Arts in Emerging Media Arts has been intentionally designed to robot-proof students for a future of life-long learning and relentless change.”

Theatrix presents 'Dry Land' Nov. 1-4
Lincoln, Neb.--Theatrix, the student-run theatre company within the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, continues its 2018-2019 season with Dry Land, written by Ruby Rae Spiegel and directed by University of Nebraska–Lincoln student, Kaitlin Triplett.
Performances are 7:30 p.m. Nov. 1, 2, 3 and 2 p.m. on Nov. 4. All performances take place in the Lab Theatre in the Temple Building at 12th and R Streets. Dry Land contains mature content that may not be suitable for all audiences.

Nebraska high school juniors invited to apply for Nebraska Young Artist Awards
Lincoln, Neb.--The Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts is seeking applications for the 22nd annual Nebraska Young Artist Awards.
The Nebraska Young Artist Awards annually recognize 11th grade students from Nebraska who are gifted and talented in the areas of visual art, dance, music, theatre, and emerging media arts. These students exemplify the pinnacles of creativity in one of the fine and performing arts.

Two cutting-edge artists to present keynote lectures at 2018 Mid-America College Art Association Conference
Lincoln, Neb.--The University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s School of Art, Art History & Design is hosting the 2018 Mid-America College Art Association Conference Oct. 4-5.
The conference theme is “Techne Expanding: Tensions, Terrains and Tools,” and will explore wide-ranging interpretations of technology and its use and impact on the teaching, making and performing of art, as well as the broader human experience.

David Javerbaum’s “An Act of God” opens Nebraska Repertory Theatre’s 50th anniversary year season
Lincoln, Neb.--The Nebraska Repertory Theatre, Nebraska’s Actors’ Equity Association professional regional theatre, begins its 50th Anniversary year season on Sept. 26-27 with two preview performances of the laugh-out-loud comedy “An Act of God,” by God, adapted by David Javerbaum. Opening night is Friday, Sept. 28 with additional performances Oct. 2-6 and 9-13 at 7:30 p.m. and Sept. 30 and Oct. 6, 7 and 14 at 2 p.m. at the Lied Center’s Johnny Carson Theater.

Immersive art installation created for TEDx Youth Event in Lincoln
Lincoln, Neb.--Christopher Irvin, a lecturer in the School of Art, Art History & Design and Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film, led the creation of an immersive art installation titled “Almost Disney” for a TEDxYouth@Lincoln event on Aug. 11 at Lincoln High School.

Lincoln, Neb.--Theatrix, the student-run theatre company within the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, opens its 2018-2019 season with Gloria, written by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins and directed by University of Nebraska–Lincoln student Tatianna Nicholle Davis.
Performances are 7:30 p.m. Sept. 20-22 and 2 p.m. on Sept. 23. All performances take place in the Lab Theatre in the Temple Building at 12th and R streets. Gloria contains mature content and violent themes that may not be suitable for all audiences.

Construction begins on Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts
Lincoln, Neb.--After nearly two years of foundational work in design, pedagogy and planning, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts is now rolling toward its fall 2019 opening.

Kleppinger named acting associate dean
Lincoln, Neb.--Dr. Stanley V. Kleppinger has been named acting associate dean of the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts. He will continue teaching part-time in the Glenn Korff School of Music as associate professor of music theory.
He begins his duties as acting associate dean on Monday, Aug. 6.
