Alumni Board awards announced

Lincoln, Neb.--The Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts Alumni Board has selected the recipients of this year’s Alumni Board Awards. The awards will be presented at the College’s Honors Day Dinner on Sunday, April 22. The dinner is by invitation only.

The Alumni Achievement Awards honor alumni from each academic area of the college who have demonstrated outstanding achievement and overall professional excellence.

Nebraska Repertory Theatre concludes season with William Golding's 'Lord of the Flies'

Lincoln, Neb.--The Nebraska Repertory Theatre, the state’s only regional professional theatre, associated with the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film in the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, concludes its first year-round season April 13, 2018 with William Golding’s LORD OF THE FLIES adapted for the stage by Nigel Williams.

The Nebraska Rep production is directed by Kevin Rich, music direction/percussion by Aimee Bass, fight choreography by Ian Borden, and choreography by Susan Ourada.

Theatrix closes season with '4.48 Psychosis'

Lincoln, Neb.--Theatrix, the student-run theatre company within the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, closes its 2017-2018 season with 4.48 Psychosis, written by Sarah Kane and directed by University of Nebraska student, Candace Nelson.

Carson School students to perform first-ever English translation of 'La capeadora'

Lincoln, Neb.--In April, Associate Professor of Theatre Ian Borden and five students from the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film will travel to the Association for Hispanic Classical Theatre Conference in El Paso, Texas, to perform a translation of “La capeadora” for the first time ever in English.

“La capeadora,” written by Luis Quiñones de Benavente, is an entremés or short, comic theatrical performances of one act, performed on their own or in conjunction with longer works from the 16th and 17th centuries in Spain.

66 students chosen for Nebraska Young Artist Awards

Lincoln, Neb.--The University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts has announced winners of the 21st annual Nebraska Young Artist Awards.

The awards recognize 11th-grade students from Nebraska for talents in visual art, dance, music, theatre, and film and new media. These students exemplify the pinnacles of creativity in one of the fine and performing arts.

Sixty-six students from more than 35 high schools across the state have been selected to participate in the special day of activities April 4 at the university.

April 6 college faculty meeting to include vote on proposed amendments to college bylaws

Lincoln, Neb.--The University of Nebraska–Lincoln's Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing will hold its spring faculty meeting on Friday, April 6 at 3:30 p.m., at the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center.

Included on the agenda is a vote on the proposed amendments to the college bylaws. This serves as notice of this public meeting to amend the college bylaws.

Lincoln, Neb.--It may seem familiar with its smart humor, a cast of human and monster puppets interacting with other humans, a vague and yet specific street location in New York City, and teaching important life lessons. Elliott excited for 'brilliant opportunity' to mentor, learn, network in Berlin

Lincoln, Neb.--Megan Elliott, founding director of the Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, is in Berlin serving as a mentor at Berlinale Talents. The event is an annual summit and networking event tied to the Berlin International Film Festival.

The summit includes 250 audio-visual creatives participating from Feb. 17-20. The film festival is Feb. 15-25.
