Re-thinking higher education the focus of Carson Conversations Forum

Lincoln, Neb.--The University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts hosted a Carson Conversations Forum:  Emerging Media Trends on Saturday, May 20 in the Temple Building.

Twelve emerging media experts each gave a presentation on a number of topics about emerging media and re-thinking higher education as the University of Nebraska–Lincoln begins building the curriculum for the Carson Center.

Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts to host Carson Conversations Forum on emerging media trends

Lincoln, Neb.—The University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts will be hosting a Carson Conversations Forum:  Emerging Media Trends on Saturday, May 20 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Temple Building. The Temple Building is located at 12th and R sts on the UNL city campus.

Stauffer retirement celebration May 4

Lincoln, Neb.--The Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film is hosting a retirement celebration for Associate Professor of Theatre Janice Stauffer on Thursday, May 4 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. in the Temple Building Lobby.

Stauffer has been the resident costume designer and a theatre faculty member in the Johnny Carson School since 1979.

New Virtual Reality class to hold open demos on campus during Dead Week

Lincoln, Neb.—University of Nebraska–Lincoln students from the film and new program of the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film teamed up with computer science students from the Department of Computer Science & Engineering in a new class this spring titled Projects in Virtual Reality (VR) team taught by Associate Professor of Film Steve Kolbe and Assistant Professor of Practice in Computer Science Christopher Bourke.

Over the semester, 19 computer science and film and new media students in five groups built applications and environments in Virtual Reality.

University Theatre closes season with 'A Bright New Boise'

Lincoln, Neb.--Theatre at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln completes its spring semester season with A BRIGHT NEW BOISE by Samuel D. Hunter. A BRIGHT NEW BOISE, directed by Chadwick Taylor in partial fulfillment of his Master of Fine Arts degree in Directing for Stage and Screen, tackles the prickly issues of faith, forgiveness and second chances. Performances are April 13 - 15 and 19 - 22 at 7:30 p.m. and April 23 at 2 p.m. in Howell Theatre, first floor, Temple Building, 12th & R streets.

UNL's Theatrix closes season with 'Lungs'

Lincoln, Neb.--Theatrix, the student-run theatre company within the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, will close its 2016-2017 season with Lungs, written by Duncan Macmillan and directed by Trey Martinez.

Meet Carson Center Director Elliott at open house event March 29

Lincoln, Neb.--An open house has been scheduled for Wednesday, March 29 from 4-6 p.m. at the Lied Commons, 12th and R sts., for members of the university community and Lincoln community to meet new Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts Director Megan Elliott. The open house is free and open to the public.

The event is hosted by the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts and the Office of Research & Economic Development. Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres will be served.

Alumni Board awards announced

Lincoln, Neb.--The Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts Alumni Board has selected the recipients of this year’s Alumni Board Awards. The awards will be presented at the College’s Honors Day Dinner on Saturday, April 22. The dinner is by invitation only.

The Alumni Achievement Awards honor alumni from each academic area of the college who have demonstrated outstanding achievement and overall professional excellence.
