Carson School purchases 3-D printer for designers
Lincoln, Neb.--With support from the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts, the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film has purchased a Formlabs Form 2 desktop 3-D printer for theatre design.
Assistant Professor of Theatre J.D. Madsen said it’s a stereolithographic, resin-based printer, which creates a higher degree of detail than an extrusion-based or PLC printer.
“It goes down as fine as 0.01 microns, which is basically a human hair thick,” he said.

UNL Theatre opens season with 'Fuddy Meers'
Lincoln, Neb.--UNL Theatre, the main stage production program at The Johnny Carson School of Theatre & Film at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, opens its 2016-2017 season with David Lindsay-Abaire’s dark comedy FUDDY MEERS.
Performances are Oct. 6-8 and 11-15 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 16 at 2 p.m. in the Temple Building’s Studio Theatre, first floor.

Carson School sophomore sings with Idina Menzel at the Lied Center
Lincoln, Neb.--It’s not every day that you get to sing with Broadway star and ‘Frozen’ sensation Idina Menzel. But Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film Sophomore Karen Richards did just that during Menzel’s performance Sept. 30 at the Lied Center for Performing Arts at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.
“It was surreal,” Richards said. “I would never in a million years think that I would have this opportunity, at least not at this time in my life. I was so lost in the moment, I forgot there was an audience. Friday was, by far, the best night of my life.”

From UNL Theatre to mom to web star, Hensley returns for popular #IMomSoHard live shows
Lincoln, Neb.--Their online videos feature casual conversations about school picture day, good lies to tell your kids and friends, the challenges of finding summer activities for your kids, wearing Spanx, removing body hair from various locations on your body, and the lack of sleep that mothers endure.
Kristin Hensley (B.A. Theatre 1998) and Jen Smedley are two Los Angeles-based mothers originally from Nebraska, who created the highly successful web series #IMomSoHard.

Q&A with Carson School alum Jessie Graff from 'American Ninja Warrior'
Lincoln, Neb.--Carson School Alumna and former Husker Pole Vaulter Jessie Graff (B.A. 2007) made history when she became the first woman to ever complete stage one of the "American Ninja Warrior" finals on NBC-TV. Known for her "Wonder Woman" costumes, Graff has become a fan favorite. On Monday, Sept. 11, she will compete in stage two. The two-hour season finale airs Monday at 7pm CST on NBC.
There were only 17 finishers of stage 1, and Graff finished 5th overall.

Carson School alumna Kraft is head of props for Sesame Street Live
Lincoln, Neb.--Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film Alumna Megan Kraft (B.A. 2013) is the head of props for Sesame Street Live. She began her new position in April.“I have longed to tour ever since I was in school,” she said. “So when I was offered the head of props position for one of the tours of Sesame Street Live, I initially thought, ‘FINALLY, this is my foot in the door!’ I was so excited to start a new adventure that would challenge me.”
