Two Digital Arts courses collaborate on projects
Lincoln, Neb.--Two Digital Arts Initiative classes in video production and film scoring collaborated on joint projects fall semester to give students a broader experience in creating film projects.
Assistant Professor of Composition Tom Larson’s Film Scoring and Creative Sound Design class worked with Associate Professor of Film Steve Kolbe’s Digital Video Production class on the projects. The final projects included four film projects that were each scored by three different composers. The final projects were shown at the Mueller Planetarium inside Morrill Hall on Dec. 14.

Lied Center experience comes full circle with 'Hairspray' audition
Lincoln, Neb.--Like Tracy Turnblad from the musical "Hairspray," Michelle Ingle tends to latch onto the positives around her.
For instance, a single ticket to a musical performance ignited her life's passion and led to the senior theater performance major auditioning for her "dream role."
As a 12 year old, Ingle was able to see "Hairspray" on the stage at the Lied Center for Performing Arts when tickets were provided through the Lied's Performance Fund program, which grants 3,000 tickets annually to children who otherwise would not be able to attend a show.

Cirque du Soleil's Peters returns to Carson School
Lincoln, Neb.--Mike Peters (M.F.A. 1999) returned to the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film on Dec. 8-9 to visit with students about his job as Assistant Head of Rigging for Cirque du Soleil’s “O” show at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas, along with Ben Stephenson, the head carpenter on “The Beatles LOVE.”

Elliott named founding director of Carson Center
Lincoln, Neb.--The University of Nebraska-Lincoln has named Megan Elliott the founding director of the Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts. Elliott, manager of leadership and community connections at the University of Technology Sydney in Australia and former director and CEO of digital media think-tank X Media Lab, will start her new role in January.

Park named artistic director of Nebraska Rep Theatre
Lincoln, Neb.--Andrew Park, an award-winning artistic director, stage director, playwright, lyricist and puppeteer, has been hired as the artistic director for the Nebraska Repertory Theatre and research assistant professor in the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film. He will begin Jan. 2.

Hixson-Lied College alumni award nominations are due Dec. 9
Lincoln, Neb.--The Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts is accepting nominations from alumni and friends for our Alumni Board awards to be given to outstanding alumni, students and supporters of the college.
All awards will be presented at the College Honors Day program on Saturday, April 22, 2017.

Theatrix presents 'After Orlando' Dec. 8
Lincoln, Neb.--Theatrix, the student-run theatre company within the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, in association with Missing Bolts Productions Inc. and NoPassport Theatre Alliance and Press, is pleased to present a staged reading of "After Orlando," an evening of short plays in response to the shooting at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, Florida.

UNL Theatre continues with new adaptation of 'Hamlet'
Lincoln, Neb.--UNL Theatre, the main stage production program at The Johnny Carson School of Theatre & Film at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, continues its 2016-2017 season with a new adaptation of William Shakespeare’s HAMLET. HAMLET is adapted by Wesley Broulik.
Performances are Nov. 17, 18 & 30 and Dec. 1, 2, 3 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday matinees, Nov. 20 & Dec. 4 at 2 p.m. in the Temple Building’s Howell Theatre, first floor.

Applications are due Dec. 9 for Nebraska Young Artist Awards
Lincoln, Neb.—The Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts is seeking applications for the 20th annual Nebraska Young Artist Awards.
The Nebraska Young Artist Awards annually recognize 11th grade students from Nebraska who are gifted and talented in the areas of visual art, dance, music, theatre, and film and new media. These students exemplify the pinnacles of creativity in one of the fine and performing arts.

Carson School's Uribe returns for Alumni Masters Week
Lincoln, Neb.--Julie Uribe (B.F.A. 1984), a television producer with more than 25 years of experience in Hollywood, has been selected to participate in the Alumni Masters Week, a program sponsored by the Nebraska Alumni Association, Scarlet Guard and the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Chancellor’s Office.
“This is exciting for me,” Uribe said.
She said the recognition was a nice “welcome home,” as earlier this year she and her husband moved back to Lincoln to be closer to her aging parents.
