Meet Carson Center Director Elliott at open house event March 29

Lincoln, Neb.--An open house has been scheduled for Wednesday, March 29 from 4-6 p.m. at the Lied Commons, 12th and R sts., for members of the university community and Lincoln community to meet new Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts Director Megan Elliott. The open house is free and open to the public.

The event is hosted by the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts and the Office of Research & Economic Development. Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres will be served.

Alumni Board awards announced

Lincoln, Neb.--The Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts Alumni Board has selected the recipients of this year’s Alumni Board Awards. The awards will be presented at the College’s Honors Day Dinner on Saturday, April 22. The dinner is by invitation only.

The Alumni Achievement Awards honor alumni from each academic area of the college who have demonstrated outstanding achievement and overall professional excellence.

Lincoln, Neb.--On April 4, 2017, almost 140 art house movie theatres—including The Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center—across the country in 124 cities and in 41 states, plus four locations in Canada, will be participating collectively in a NATIONAL EVENT DAY screening of the 80's movie 1984 in support of the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities.

2017 Nebraska Young Artist Award winners announced

Lincoln, Neb.--The University of Nebraska–Lincoln Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts has announced the winners of the 20th annual Nebraska Young Artist Awards.

The Nebraska Young Artist Awards annually recognize 11th grade students from Nebraska who are gifted and talented in the areas of visual art, dance, music, theatre, and film and new media. These students exemplify the pinnacles of creativity in one of the fine and performing arts.

Lincoln, Neb.--Theatrix, the student-run theatre company within the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, continues its 2017 Spring season with the Women’s Week Staged Reading Festival, an event that presents plays performed, directed, and written by published and student female theatre artists.

University of Nebraska Theatre opens spring season with 'This Random World'

Lincoln, Neb.--Theatre at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln opens its spring semester season with a new play by Steven Dietz. "This Random World," directed by Professor Paul Steger, is a heart-breaking comedy of missed connections asking the question, “How often do we travel parallel paths through the world without noticing?”

Performances are March 2-4 and 7-11 at 7:30 p.m. and March 12 at 2 p.m. in the Studio Theatre, first floor, Temple Building, 12th & R streets.

Theatrix opens spring season with the comedy 'Leaving Lundso's'

Lincoln, Neb.--Theatrix, the student-run theatre company within the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, will open its 2017 Spring season with "Leaving Lundso’s," a sketch comedy show written, directed, performed and produced by UNL students.

Carson School holds competition for film scripts for Carson Film

Lincoln, Neb.--The Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln is accepting submissions for 12-15 page scripts (projected run time 10-15 minutes) for the upcoming Carson Film, scheduled to begin shooting in the spring of 2018.

The story must be about Nebraska, be set in Nebraska, or could be filmed in Nebraska. Scripts with roles for college-age performers are preferred.

The winning script will be bought outright for $1,000.

Smith appointed director of Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film

Lincoln, Neb.--Harris Smith has been appointed Director of the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. Smith has been previously serving as interim director since Paul Steger stepped down as director to return to the faculty on June 30, 2016.

Lincoln, Neb.--Did you know that undergraduate and graduate majors in the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts have the opportunity to apply for funding support from grant programs available through the Hixson-Lied Endowment?

Two informational sessions have been scheduled for Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts students to learn more about applying for Hixson-Lied student grants.

Associate Dean Christopher Marks will give a short overview of the student grants available and then answer questions.
