Theatrix presents the New Artists Festival

Lincoln, Neb.--Theatrix, the student run theatre company within the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film, will begin its spring season with the New Artists Festival, which will feature three plays written by student playwrights as well as an art gallery featuring art students’ work.  
 
Trey Martinez, a junior in both theatre performance and directing/management, will direct junior Matt Knight’s short play "Cat's Got Your Tongue," a play that features a talking cat with a large personality and a very funny, yet very confused owner.

Hixson-Lied College seeks new CAST ambassadors at open casting calls

Lincoln, Neb.--The Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts is inviting all undergraduate students to audition for the 2016-2017 CAST on Feb. 18-19 from 3-6 p.m. in 103 Woods Art Building. Students should sign up for an interview timeslot at https://go.unl.edu/fpacast.

The six students who are selected will serve as brand ambassadors for the college. CAST ambassadors will promote pride and develop awareness of the college and its academic programs through videos, social media, printed materials and special appearances.

$20M gift to establish Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts

Lincoln, Neb.--Those who want an education at the vanguard of new forms of filmmaking and emerging media -- including virtual production, interactive and mobile media,  film special effects, augmented and virtual reality, game design and more -- will one day get the chance to study at the new Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

UNL's Johnny Carson School playwrights selected for festival

Lincoln, Neb.--Two student playwrights from the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film have been selected to participate in the Region V Festival 48 Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival National Playwriting Program January 17-23, 2016, at Normandale Community College in Bloomington, Minnesota.

Theatrix concludes Fall season with 'Mary's Wedding'

Lincoln, Neb.--Theatrix, a student-run theatre company within the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film, will conclude its Fall season with "Mary's Wedding" by Stephen Massicotte.

Dustin Mosko, a second-year MFA directing student and Theatrix’s artistic director, will be directing the play.

Carson School presents 'The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee'

Lincoln, Neb.--The Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film continues its 2015-2016 theatre season with "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee." Performances are Nov. 12-14 and 18-21 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 22 at 2 p.m. in the Howell Theatre.

Tickets are $18 regular, $16 faculty/staff/seniors and $12 for students and are available in advance from the Lied Center Box Office at (402) 472-4747 or (800) 432-3231 or one hour prior to curtain in the Temple Lobby. Tickets may also be purchased online at https://go.unl.edu/theatretix.

Carson School alumnus Tousley is an assistant set designer for new Disney 'Frozen' production

Lincoln, Neb.--Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film alumnus David Tousley (M.F.A. 2015), is an assistant set designer on the new stage production of “Frozen,” which opens next summer at the Hyperion Theatre at Disney’s California Adventure theme park.

He began working on the project last spring after making an earlier connection with designer Robert Brill.

Nebraska Masquers presents Temple of Terror haunted house

Lincoln, Neb.--Nebraska Masquers, an RSO of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, will produce its annual Temple of Terror haunted house. Temple of Terror: Nightmare on R Street will be open from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 29, Friday, Oct. 30 and Saturday, Oct. 31.

Tickets are $5 per person, or $3 per person if you are with a group of five or more people. Temple of Terror: Nightmare on R Street will lead visitors on a tour of the rooms and theaters located on the third floor of the Temple Building on UNL's city campus. The Temple Building is located at 12th and R St.

Carson School alumnus Jeffery wins Louisiana Film Prize

Lincoln, Neb.--“The Bespoke Tailoring of Mister Bellamy,” a short film directed and produced by Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film alumnus Alexander Jeffery received $50,000 as the grand prize winner of the Louisiana Film Prize.

Twenty filmmaker finalists competed for the cash prize for a 15-minute film. According to founder Gregory Kallenberg, it’s the largest award for a short film in the world.
