Theatrix opens season with 'Nebraska: Nice'

Lincoln, Neb.--Theatrix, the student-run theatre company within the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, will open its 2017-2018 season with Nebraska: Nice, written and directed by Carson School students Hunter Mruz and Lindsey Parodi.
 
Performances are 7:30 p.m. Oct. 26-28, and 2 p.m. on Oct. 29. All performances take place in the Lab Theatre in the Temple Building at 12th and R Streets. Nebraska: Nice contains mature language and themes that may not be suitable for all audiences.

Carson Center to co-host Google Cloud conversation

Lincoln, Neb.—Megan Elliott, Director of the Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts and Brendan Harkin, founder and director of X-Media Lab, are hosting a Nebraska Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data-Driven Innovation Meetup featuring Josh Ellis, customer engineer for Google Cloud Platform.

The meetup is Monday, Nov. 6 from 5-7 p.m. at Fuse Coworking Space, 151 N 8th St., 5th floor, in Lincoln. The event is free and open to the public.

Carson School alumnus Flick is level designer for Sonic Mania videogame

Lincoln, Neb.--Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film Alumnus Brad Flick (B.F.A. 2010) worked on the creative team as a level designer for the new Sonic Mania video game released in August by SEGA.

Christian Whitehead, Headcannon and PagodaWest Games, who were all chosen for their work in the Sonic community, developed the game in collaboration with SEGA of America. Sonic Mania celebrates the series’ 25th anniversary and features the best of Classic Sonic, while pushing the envelope forward with 60 frames-per-second gameplay and pixel-perfect physics.

'Tea Time Movie' skit actress Teresa Ganzel is next Carson Lecturer

Lincoln, Neb.— Teresa Ganzel, a comedic actress and recurring cast member of The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson who starred as the Tea Time Lady and other characters in many other popular skits on the show, will present the next Carson Lecture on Friday, Oct. 6 at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film.

Carson School presents work created at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre in London this summer

Lincoln, Neb.--Get a behind-the-scenes look at the work created by Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film students at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre in London this summer when they present "Journeys End in Lovers Meeting:  JCSTF at Shakespeare's Globe."

The event is Saturday, Sept. 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the Studio Theatre, which is located on the first floor of the Temple Building at 12th and R sts. Free admission, but seating is limited. Doors will open at 7 p.m.

Nebraska Rep, Lied Center announce production change for March 2018

Lincoln, Neb.--The Nebraska Repertory Theatre and the Lied Center for Performing Arts announce a change in production for their March, 2018 joint venture.
 
The new production is AVENUE Q by Jeff Whitley, music & lyrics by Robert Lopez & Jeff Marx. Dates of production remain the same: March 2 - March 16, 2018, at the Lied Center’s Johnny Carson Theater.

Carson School students study abroad at Globe Theatre in England

Lincoln, Neb.--Sixteen students from the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film and one student from the College of Journalism and Mass Communications studied internationally this summer at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London, England, thanks in part to support from the Hixson-Lied Endowment.

Assistant Professor of Practice Wesley Broulik, who accompanied the students to London, said the experience was life-changing for the students.
