Lincoln, Neb.--Theatrix, the student-run theatre company within the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film, will open its 2016-2017 season with "The Baltimore Waltz," written by Paula Vogel.

When Anna is diagnosed with a terminal illness, she and her brother Carl must journey across Europe in search of a cure. Along the way they find life in the people they meet, learn the importance of family, and discover just how far someone will go to save a loved one. In this wildly dynamic play by Paula Vogel, three actors will portray up to 15 different characters of various nationalities while using production design in surprising ways. Inspired by the playwright’s own relationship with her brother Carl, "The Baltimore Waltz" is a dramatic comedy that focuses on themes of coping with illness, loss and living life to the fullest.

Theatrix’s production of "The Baltimore Waltz" is directed by senior theatre performance and directing and management major Amy Almond and features performances by senior performance and directing and management majors Desiree Bartels and Jorden Charley-Whatley and junior performance major Nick Howard. Sophomore directing and management major Katie Triplett stage manages.

Props and scenic design and costume design are by freshmen technical theatre majors Colin Falk and Abby Cook, respectively. Junior technical major Matthew Benson designs the production’s lighting and sophomore technical major Emily Callahan is the show’s sound designer.

Performances are Sept. 22-24 at 7:30 p.m. and Sept. 25 at  2 p.m. All performances take place in the Lab Theatre in the Temple Building at 12th and R Streets. "The Baltimore Waltz" contains mature language and themes that may not be suitable for all audiences.
