Redd awarded first prize in third international competition

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music graduate student Jordan Redd recently won First Prize in the Charleston International Music Competition (CIMC). This is the third international competition of which Redd has been awarded first prize.

The CIMC is another competition that usually happens in person, but due to Covid-19 was moved online this year. The CIMC holds several competitions throughout the year that focus on different genres, including Baroque music, Classical music, European music, Romantic music, and Contemporary music. Redd entered and won the Romantic Music genre in the Senior Division, which is for anyone at least 22 years old.

“I couldn’t be more proud of Jordan’s accomplishments in 2020!” said Professor of Horn Alan Mattingly. “In addition to winning multiple international competitions, he has been the invited guest artist at horn events and performed with symphony orchestras. He is performing at a truly professional level, and I can’t wait to see where his career path leads him.”

Redd played the first movement of the Franz Strauss Horn Concerto. It was a two-round competition. He was notified in the first week of November that he made the final round. Then they published his video on their YouTube channel. The final results of the competition were emailed out on November 24th.

“All I can say is that it is an honor to be selected as a first prize winner,” Redd said. “I am always looking for new ways to improve and make myself a better horn player. I want to thank Dr. Alan Mattingly, Dr. Nick Kenney, and most importantly, my wife Bella for all of their support over the years. I would also like to congratulate the other contestants that entered the competition, especially fellow graduate student Sanda Mašić, who was also named a first prize winner. This is now the third international competition that I have been awarded first prize in. I am seeking to grow that number.”
