Hixson-Lied College Alumni Winners on campus

Lincoln, Neb.--The Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts Alumni Achievement Award recipients will be in classes this week, prior to the Honors Day Awards Dinner on Sunday, April 22. The dinner is by invitation only.

The Alumni Achievement Awards honor alumni from each academic area of the college who have demonstrated outstanding achievement and overall professional excellence.

Souto’s solo exhibition opens April 20 at Kiechel Fine Art

Lincoln, Neb.--University of Nebraska–Lincoln School of Art, Art History & Design Director Francisco Souto has a solo exhibition, “Dicotomias,” opening April 20 and continuing through May 26 at Kiechel Fine Art in Lincoln.

An opening reception for the exhibit will take place this Friday, April 20 from 6-9 p.m. at Kiechel Fine Art, which is located at 1208 O St. Souto will present an artist talk at 7 p.m.

Alumni Board awards announced

Lincoln, Neb.--The Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts Alumni Board has selected the recipients of this year’s Alumni Board Awards. The awards will be presented at the College’s Honors Day Dinner on Sunday, April 22. The dinner is by invitation only.

MFA Thesis Exhibitions run April 2-20 in the Eisentrager-Howard Gallery

Lincoln, Neb.--Lincoln, Neb.—Nine graduating Master of Fine Arts students from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s School of Art, Art History & Design will present their MFA Thesis Exhibitions in three exhibitions on display between April 2-20 in the Eisentrager-Howard Gallery in Richards Hall.

The first MFA Thesis Exhibition runs April 2-6 and features the work of John-David Richardson, Phoebe Jan-McMahon and Kyle Nobles. A reception will be held April 6 from 5-7 p.m.

Artist, critic Robert Storr presents next Hixson-Lied Visiting Scholar Lecture April 5

Lincoln, Neb.--Artist, critic and curator Robert Storr will present the final Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist Lecture of the spring series on Thursday, April 5.

The lecture begins at 5:30 p.m. in Richards Hall Rm. 15. It is free and open to the public.

The University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s School of Art, Art History & Design’s Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist & Scholar Lecture Series brings notable artists, scholars and designers to Nebraska each semester to enhance the education of students.

Graphic design senior wins poster contest for March for Our Lives

Lincoln, Neb.--Natalie Dettmer, a senior art major in the School of Art, Art History & Design from Lincoln, won a national poster contest sponsored by Amplifier and Adobe Project 1324 to create posters for the March for Our Lives event in Washington, D.C., on March 24. The march was organized to bring attention to the issue of ending gun violence in response to the February shooting at Florida’s Stoneman Douglas High School.

66 students chosen for Nebraska Young Artist Awards

Lincoln, Neb.--The University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts has announced winners of the 21st annual Nebraska Young Artist Awards.

The awards recognize 11th-grade students from Nebraska for talents in visual art, dance, music, theatre, and film and new media. These students exemplify the pinnacles of creativity in one of the fine and performing arts.

Sixty-six students from more than 35 high schools across the state have been selected to participate in the special day of activities April 4 at the university.
