Chiara String Quartet to begin Hixson-Lied Concert Series October 14
Lincoln, NE– On Monday, October 14 at 7:30pm the Chiara String Quartet will be performing the first concert of their Hixson-Lied Concert Series at Kimball Recital Hall (11th and R Streets). The program will include Bela Bartok’s String Quartets No. 1, 3, and 5. The second concert of the series on Thursday, November 14 will feature Bartok’s String Quartets No. 2, 4, and 6. In Spring 2014, the series will continue on Tuesday, February 4, and Thursday, March 20.

Trumpeter White excited about collaboration

UNL Brass Quintet to perform original 20th century compositions
LINCOLN, Neb.— The University of Nebraska Brass Quintet will perform a selection of original compositions from the 20th Century including the opus 65 Quintet by Jan Koetsier, the Suite Francais by Eugene Bozza, Andre Previn's Four Outings for Brass and one of the first original compositions for the New York Brass Quintet by Collier Jones. The event will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, September 30 in Kimball Recital Hall. The cost of the event is $5 for general admission and $3 for seniors and students.

Trans-Nebraska Players take to the Kimball Recital Hall stage Saturday
The Trans-Nebraska Players, a 5-piece chamber ensemble from three different Nebraska collegiate institutions, performs at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28 in Kimball Recital Hall. The performers are Franziska Brech, flute, and Noah Rogoff, cello, from UNK; David C. Neely, violin, and Clark Potter, viola, from UNL; and pianist James Margetts from Chadron State University.

Hall makes his faculty artist performance debut-Postponed
Note: This concert has been postponed. Watch music.unl.edu for information on rescheduling.New Glenn Korff School of Music faculty Dave Hall will present a percussion recital at 7:30 p.m. on October 1st in Kimball Recital Hall.
“The unique thing about percussion recitals is the instrumentation is always different, and the wide array of sounds and possibilities present in percussion music is always exciting to me,” Hall said. “This recital will feature a mix of solo and chamber works and will traverse a wide expressive range from aggressive to cerebral to joyful.”

Barger to showcase E-flat clarinet's amazing capabilities

UNL Faculty Presents Leonard Bernstein's Music For Brass
Leonard Bernstein completed his suite of brass pieces on April 8, 1959. They were written for members of the New York Philharmonic and received their premier at Carnegie Hall. The pieces were commissioned by the Juilliard Musical Foundation. This set of pieces, to be performed by members of the Glenn Korff School of Music faculty, is rarely performed as a set and are all influenced by Bernstein's love of jazz. The event will take place at 3 p.m., September 22 in Kimball Recital Hall.

Reimer to present recital of American Art Songs
Soprano Jamie Reimer and pianist Michael Cotton present a recital of American art songs on Thursday, September 19. The event at Kimball Recital Hall begins at 7:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
The repertoire explores the rich harmonies and lyrical vocal lines of the late 19th century through the middle 20th century, and includes works by Ernst Bacon, Amy Marcy Cheney Beach, and John Duke.
Audiences will also hear the American premiere of Robert Owens' 4 Sonnets to Duse, written in 2012 for Jamie Reimer to the poetry of Sara Teasdale
