Moran Woodwind Quintet plans upcoming performance
The Moran Woodwind Quintet, the resident Faculty Quintet at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (John Bailey, flute; William McMullen, oboe; Diane Barger, clarinet; Jeffrey McCray, bassoon and Alan Mattingly, horn), will perform starting at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19 in Kimball Recital Hall. Tickets are $5 for general admission and $3 for students/seniors.
The four pieces (in order) include:
Rengaines, which means "old songs"--a light non-standard opener, in which a simple theme is transformed into a march, a polka, a waltz, a romance, a cadenza, etc.

UNL Faculty Jazz Group prepares for upcoming performance
LINCOLN, Neb.— The UNL Glenn Korff School of Music Faculty Jazz Group will present its spring concert at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 18 in Kimball Recital Hall. The event will be featuring works by Bill Mobley, Harold Danko, UNL OTHERMER FELLOW/DMA STUDIES Fellow David Stamps and new works by Tom Larson. Paul Barnes' faculty recital honors Scribante Professorship
Marguerite Scribante Professor of Piano Paul Barnes presents a faculty recital titled “Homage: A Program of Music Inspired by Music” on Thursday, April 3 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall on the University of Nebraska–Lincoln city campus. The performance is free and open to the public.
The program also pays homage to Scribante, who endowed his recently awarded professorship in the Glenn Korff School of Music.

Jazz Trombonist Delfeayo Marsalis to present public lecture April 14
Jazz Trombonist Delfeayo Marsalis will present a free public lecture titled “Sweet Thunder: Ellington, Shakespeare and the Blues” on Monday, April 14 at 5 p.m. in Love Library Rm. 102.
Marsalis will discuss how Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn translated Shakespearean characters and works into their 1957 jazz suite “Such Sweet Thunder,” his archival research into their compositional processes and his own musical reinterpretation of the suite, released in 2011 as “Sweet Thunder: Duke and Shak.”

The Glenn Korff School of Music presents "At The Threshold"
“AT THE THRESHOLD” is an exciting collaborative performance and community engagement project that is bringing together many artistic forces to reach out to the community in one voice and raise awareness for “Doorways to Hope”; a public art collaboration between Lincoln/Lancaster County Habitat for Humanity and Hildegard Center for the Arts. The concert is scheduled for Sunday, March 9, 2014, 3 p.m. at the Sheldon Museum of Art, Great Hall.

UNL Glenn Korff School of Music opera program to present Cendrillon (Cinderella)
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music's opera program will present Jules Massenet's "Cendrillon" (Cinderella) on Feb. 21 and 23. The performances will be directed by Hixson-Lied Professor of Voice and Director of Opera William Shomos.
Performances are Feb. 21 at 7:30 p.m. and Feb. 23 at 3 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall, 11th and R sts. Tickets are $20 adults and $10 for students/seniors. They are available in advance from the Lied Center Box Office at (402) 472-4747 or (800) 432-3231 or at the door.
