Glenn Korff School of Music presents landmark 'Pierrot Lunaire'
The Glenn Korff School of Music will present Arnold Schoenberg’s landmark of early 20th century music, “Pierrot Lunaire” on Thursday, Oct. 9 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall. The concert is free and open to the public and will also be webcast.

Faculty Jazz Ensemble Concert rescheduled for November
Lincoln, Neb.--The University of Nebraska–Lincoln Faculty Jazz Ensemble will perform a recital featuring original works and arrangements they performed on their recent European tour on Wednesday, November 12 at 7:30 p.m. in Westbrook Music Building Rm. 119. The concert is free and open to the public.
Their summer tour included performances at The Montreux International Jazz Festival, Jazz at Vienne Festival, Jazz at Brienz Festival and an invitational performance at the United Nations.

Chiara’s Sirota to perform ‘New Works for Viola’ solo recital
Lincoln, NE — On Monday, September 22, 2014 at 7:30pm, violist and UNL faculty member Jonah Sirota will perform a recital featuring composer Robert Sirota’s Compendium de Lumine at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Kimball Recital Hall (11th and R Streets). The recital’s program, titled “New Works for Viola,” will also include the world premiere of Rodney Lister’s Complicated Grief and Damon Lee’s Still Untitled for Viola and Digital Tanpura.

Brass faculty goes solo for upcoming performance
LINCOLN, Neb.— Members of the brass faculty at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music will pool their efforts in an evening of solo performances for trumpet, horn, trombone and tuba on October 22 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall.
Works by Johan Neruda, Paul Basler, Gustav Mahler, Eduardo Nogueroles and James Stephenson will be performed by Scott Quackenbush, Trumpet; K. Craig Bircher, Trumpet; Alan Mattingly, Horn; Scott Anderson, Trombone and Craig Fuller, Tuba. The soloists will be accompanied by Michael Cotton.

Chiara String Quartet prepares for first performance of the season
On Friday, September 12 at 7:30pm the Chiara String Quartet will perform the first concert of the 2014-2015 Hixson-Lied Concert Series at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Kimball Recital Hall (11th and R Streets). The performance will include Mozart’s String Quartet in C Major, K.465, Bartok’s String Quartet No. 1 in A minor, and Brahms’ Clarinet Quintet in B Minor with UNL faculty artist Diane Barger – a performance that was snowed out last season.View Article

Community Piano Experience at UNL to begin
All adults wishing to take piano lessons, or further their piano playing skills, can participate in the 11-week UNL Community Piano Experience starting on Sept. 15 and 16 in the fall semester.
The once-a-week program offers beginning and intermediate piano classes to adults in the community as a way of providing recreational piano lessons in a relaxed atmosphere.
Brenda Wristen, an associate professor of music at UNL, started the piano experience in 2002. She also directs the piano pedagogy and keyboard skills programs at the university.
