Lied Center to host rare Yo-Yo Ma Lecture Dec. 5

Lincoln, Neb.--On Dec. 5 at 7:30 p.m., the Lied Center for Performing Arts will present world-renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma in a very rare lecture as part of the E.N. Thompson Forum on World Issues. Tickets for the lecture are $34 and available now at liedcenter.org, at the Box Office at 12th and R Streets, or 402.472.4747. Big Red Singers, Vocal Jazz ready to energize

LINCOLN, Neb.— The Big Red Singers and the Vocal Jazz Ensemble will each take to the Kimball Recital Hall stage on December 10 at 7:30 pm. as part of a University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music performance.

The Big Red Singers will take the stage to present an electrifying performance of energizing and uplifting music. The show will include the music of Cher, Justin Timberlake, and many others, as well as featuring outstanding student-soloists, a fantastic show band, and the world-premiere of an arrangement of Kevin Rudolf’s “Welcome To The World.”

Student Dance Project reaches its 10th year

LINCOLN, Neb.— The University of Nebraska–Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music in the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing arts presents the 10th annual Student Dance Project, directed by Susan Levine Ourada, on Friday, December 5 and Saturday, December 6 in the Mabel Lee Hall Dance Space (Room 304/310, 14th and Vine Streets). The performance will take place at 7:30 p.m. each night. 

The Student Dance Project is a program of original work by student choreographers.

LINCOLN, Neb.— The Diane Barger/Mark Clinton/Jeff McCray Trio performance scheduled for Dec. 9 has been cancelled with hopes to be performed in the Spring semester at a yet to be determined date.

Hall’s percussion performance takes over the Kimball stage

LINCOLN, Neb.— University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music Faculty Dave Hall will present a solo concert of contemporary works for marimba, drums, “junk” percussion, and processed electronic sounds on December 8 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall.

Featured composers include Alejandro Viñao, John Serry, John Psathas, and 2014 Pulitzer Prize winner, John Luther Adams.

The performance is free and open to the public.

Traditional Cocoa & Carols returns to Kimball in December

LINCOLN, Neb.— On December 7 in Kimball Recital Hall, the combined traditional University of Nebraska-Lincoln choirs will combine for an exciting holiday-inspired massed choral performance of seasonal favorites titled COCOA & CAROLS: A FAMILY YULETIDE FESTIVAL OF CHOIRS. The concerts are scheduled for 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Tickets (General Admission $5; Students/Seniors $3) are available at the door.

UNL Wind Ensemble to overlay past and present in concert

LINCOLN, Neb.— What would happen if you could transport a Renaissance-dancing master into the 21st century? And what would Shakespeare’s star-crossed lovers sound like if they were wooing in the modern era?

Join the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Wind Ensemble on December 4 at 7:30 p.m. in the Kimball Recital Hall as they overlay past and present in a program featuring Jacob’s classic “William Byrd Suite,” Hesketh’s new “Danceries, Set II,” Prokofiev’s dramatic suite from “Romeo and Juliet,” and Tchaikovsky’s zany “Dance of the Jesters.

Campus Orchestra to perform its first concert

LINCOLN, Neb.— The first-ever University of Nebraska-Lincoln Campus Orchestra performance will take place December 3 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall.

The fledgling orchestra is in its first term in the Glenn Korff School of Music. This ensemble does not require an audition and is open to string playing university students from all across the campus. The overseeing faculty member is Dr. Tyler White.
