New era coming this fall at the Glenn Korff School of Music
LINCOLN, Neb.— Highlighted by the musical, City of Angels, a performance in the Hixson-Lied Concert Series of the Chiara String Quartet, and the Cornhusker Marching Band Highlights Show at the Lied Center for Performing Arts, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music is excited to announce its Fall 2014 season.

Big Red Singers take the stage on Saturday, August 23
LINCOLN, Neb.— The University of Nebraska-Lincoln's own Big Red Singers will take the stage on Saturday, August 23 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall.
The performance is a highlight of Big Red Welcome in a high-energy performance of singing and expert choreography. They will present songs by the likes of Justin Timberlake, Kevin Rudolf, and more.

Cornhusker Marching Band takes over Memorial Stadium
LINCOLN, Neb.— The Cornhusker Marching Band's annual exhibition performance will take place Friday, August 22 at 7 p.m. in Memorial Stadium on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus.
You'll see highlights of what the Cornhusker Marching Band and has been working on during their pre-season Band Camp, including the famous "drill down," a preview of the first halftime show, the Nebraska Pregame Spectacular, and many more Husker favorites.

White a finalist for The American Prize in Composition
Tyler White, professor of composition and conducting and Director of Orchestras in the Glenn Korff School of Music, is one of eight finalists for The American Prize (TAP) in Composition in opera/theater/film in 2014 for his opera, “O Pioneers!”
Winners for the prize will be selected in July or August.

UNL's Marks receives two grants for recording music of Seth Bingham
Associate Professor of Organ Christopher Marks has received two grants to support the recording of his third CD of the music of Seth Bingham.
Last spring, he received a $10,000 Arts and Humanities research grant from the UNL Office of Research and Economic Development. And in June he was awarded a $2,200 grant from the San Francisco Chapter of the American Guild of Organists.
Bingham (1882-1972) was an American organist and a prolific composer. His compositions include works for organ, choral, orchestral and chamber music, though most of his compositions were for organ.

UNL Graduate Jazz Composer Wins Downbeat Magazine Award
Masayoshi Ishikawa, who is pursuing his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in jazz composition in the University of Nebraska–Lincoln's Glenn Korff School of Music, has won a 2014 Downbeat Student Music Award in Graduate Composition for Small Ensemble.
His composition, “Hotaru,” was selected as the award-winning work. He wrote the piece for the UNL Graduate Jazz Combo, and it was premiered at their concert in October 2013.
