Chiara’s ‘Premiered and Loved’ concert to include world premiere

LINCOLN, Neb.— On Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at 7:30pm, the Chiara String Quartet will be performing the third concert of the 2016-2017 Hixson-Lied Concert Series at Kimball Recital Hall (11th and R Streets). The program, titled “Premiered and Loved” will feature the world premiere of Rome Prize-winner Pierre Jalbert’s Canticle (String Quartet No. 6), commissioned for the Chiara Quartet by the UNL’s Glenn Korff School of Music with support from the Hixson-Lied Endowment, as well as a reprise of another audience-favorite Chiara commission, String Quartet No.

Hall’s upcoming percussion concert includes regional premieres

Marks organ recital includes Nebraska premiere of Knecht piece

LINCOLN, Neb.— The Christopher Marks recital on Thursday, January 19 in the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music’s Kimball Recital Hall features music for organ and other instruments, with Christopher Marks collaborating with faculty colleagues from the Glenn Korff School of Music, including John Bailey on flute, Jeff McCray on bassoon, Greg Beaver on cello, Rebecca Fischer on violin, and Dave Hall on percussion.

Faculty Jazz Ensemble performance rescheduled for February 3

LINCOLN, Neb.— The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music Faculty Jazz Ensemble’s performance has been rescheduled for Friday, February 3 at 7:30 p.m. in Westbrook Recital Hall (Room 119). The performance will include guest artist Jerry Bergonzi. The concert was originally scheduled for February 27.

Clinton’s upcoming “A.Major.Recital” opens Spring performance season

LINCOLN, Neb.— University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music Professor of Piano Mark Clinton’s Thursday, January 12, 2017 performance features the monumental opus posthumous A Major Sonata of Schubert (written two months before the composer’s death), and the epic Sixth Sonata of Prokofiev (the first of the composer’s so-called “War Sonatas” written during World War II). These are two “major” piano sonatas in the key of A major occupying important positions in the classical canon, but with diametrically opposed musical perspectives!

Two Digital Arts courses collaborate on projects

Lincoln, Neb.--Two Digital Arts Initiative classes in video production and film scoring collaborated on joint projects fall semester to give students a broader experience in creating film projects.

Assistant Professor of Composition Tom Larson’s Film Scoring and Creative Sound Design class worked with Associate Professor of Film Steve Kolbe’s Digital Video Production class on the projects. The final projects included four film projects that were each scored by three different composers. The final projects were shown at the Mueller Planetarium inside Morrill Hall on Dec. 14.
