2017 Nebraska Young Artist Award winners announced
Lincoln, Neb.--The University of Nebraska–Lincoln Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts has announced the winners of the 20th annual Nebraska Young Artist Awards.
The Nebraska Young Artist Awards annually recognize 11th grade students from Nebraska who are gifted and talented in the areas of visual art, dance, music, theatre, and film and new media. These students exemplify the pinnacles of creativity in one of the fine and performing arts.

University Singers to help celebrate Boys Town’s 100th Anniversary
LINCOLN, Neb.— In honor of Boys Town’s 100th Anniversary, The University Singers will present a concert celebrating Boys Town’s rich history of choral music on Thursday, March 16 at 7:30 p.m. at Boys Town (13943 Dowd Drive). The concert will include sacred works performed by the Boys Town Choir during their touring years in the 1940s through 70s, and will feature Faure’s Requiem. The performance will take place in Boys Town’s own beautiful Dowd Chapel. The performance is free and open to the public.

Spend St. Patrick’s Day with cello music in Kimball Recital Hall
LINCOLN, Neb.— On March 17 at 7:30 pm in Kimball Recital Hall, Gregory Beaver will perform a mostly solo recital of cello music ranging from the 20th century masterpiece “Sonata for solo cello” by Zoltán Kodály in the 50th anniversary of his death to a Nebraska premiere.

The sound of The Good Life
The Good Life. What does it mean to you? For some it’s about spending time with the ones they love, for others it’s a night walking on the beach and for others still it’s about just enjoying life!
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Jazz Orchestra recently released a CD, “The Good Life: Live at Kimball Hall,” that captures many different moods and feelings with powerful live performances by the group.

Sirota viola recital includes World Premiere piece, Elegy For a Lost World
LINCOLN, Neb.— Violist Jonah Sirota’s recital with guest artist Molly Morkoski, piano, and faculty artists William McMullen, oboe, Diane Barger, clarinet, John Bailey, flute, and Karen Becker, cello will take place Wednesday, March 15 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall.
It’s a program of chamber music with viola from the time when the instrument came into its own. The night features works by Holst, Clarke, Loeffler, Bruch, Martinu, and the world premiere of Elegy For a Lost World by Robert Sirota.

Bachs highlight upcoming U. of Nebraska Brass Quintet recital
LINCOLN, Neb.— The University of Nebraska Brass Quintet will present their Spring Recital on Monday, March 13 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall. The program takes the listener through styles from the Renaissance, the Baroque and into the Twentieth Century. It features music by two different Bachs (both Johann Sebastian and Jan) and a rarely performed work for quintet by Edward Gregson.

First Spring UNL performance coming up for Jazz Orchestra and Big Band
LINCOLN, Neb.— The UNL Jazz Orchestra and the UNL Big Band combine for their first performance of the Spring semester in Kimball Recital Hall on Thursday, March 9 at 7:30 p.m. The UNL Big Band, under the direction of Jesse McBee, will be performing Hay Burner, Next Season and Bye Bye Blackbird. The UNL Jazz Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Paul Haar, will then take the stage to perform Gotham City, Just Like That, The Touch of Your Lips, Tom Sails Away, Beast (by our own Andrew Janak) and Bowman Pulls the Plug (by our own Tom Larson).
