Fischer, Hawley perform in Zimbabwe for arts festival
Lincoln, Neb.--Research Associate Professor of Violin Rebecca Fischer and her husband, Anthony Hawley, a Lecturer in the School of Art, Art History & Design, performed and participated in the Hirare International Arts Festival (HIFA) in Zimbabwe, Africa, in May.
Fischer and Hawley received a grant from the Hixson-Lied Endowment to fund their travel to HIFA.
“It made it possible for us to do it,” Fischer said.

Korff School's Triebold wins international competition
Lincoln, Neb.--Mezzo-Soprano Emily J. Triebold, who received her Master of Music degree in May from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Glenn Korff School of Music, received first prize in Brahms Performance from the Great Composers Competition.

Connections, history will help lead this year’s drum majors success for the CMB
There is only so much one can do to prepare to be a drum major in the Cornhusker Marching Band on game day. The situation and atmosphere in Memorial Stadium, at a road game or at a bowl game is constantly in a state of flux but this fall’s drum majors do have some family connections and history to lean on when there are quick changes to be made.
For one, Meghan Coughlin, who was a CMB drum major last season, and Jacob Coughlin are brother and sister. They are believed to be the first brother-sister drum majors serving at the same time in CMB history.

Alum Tantillo captures Aspire Award
Glenn Korff School of Music Alum Megan Tantillo was recently named Best New Director at The Aspire Awards.
The Aspire Awards, presented during the Show Choir National Finals, are the show choir industry's top awards for professionals working in, and contributing to, the advancement of show choir. These 11 categories recognize individual excellence in the areas of directing, choreography, costuming, arranging, regional competition and lifetime achievement as well as excellence by an industry professional and school in the areas of service.

American Ballet Theatre, St. Louis Symphony to present 'Firebird' at Lied in Feburary 2018
Lincoln, Neb.--One of the world's top dance companies, American Ballet Theatre, will unite with the seven-time Grammy-winning musicians of the St. Louis Symphony for two performances Feb. 16 and 17, 2018, at the Lied Center for Performing Arts at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
The collaboration was announced April 26 at New York City's Lincoln Center and features a once-in-a-lifetime performance of Igor Stravinsky's masterwork, "Firebird," with principal dancers Misty Copeland (Feb. 16) and Isabella Boylston (Feb. 17) illuminating the iconic title role.
