Alumni Board awards announced

Lincoln, Neb.--The Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts Alumni Board has selected the recipients of this year’s Alumni Board Awards. The awards will be presented at the College’s Honors Day Dinner on Saturday, April 22. The dinner is by invitation only.

The Alumni Achievement Awards honor alumni from each academic area of the college who have demonstrated outstanding achievement and overall professional excellence.

Sergio Ruiz named director of Glenn Korff School of Music

Lincoln, Neb.--Sergio Ruiz, professor of music and chair of the Georgia College Department of Music, has been named the new director of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Glenn Korff School of Music. Ruiz will begin his new position on July 1.

He replaces John W. Richmond, who left the university last year to become of the dean of the College of Music at the University of North Texas in Denton. Peter Lefferts has been interim director of the Korff School since July.

‘Beyond Their Years’ caps off final performance of Chiaras season

Cather’s ‘My Ántonia’ to come alive in song

Lincoln, Neb.--Since 2002, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln has provided internationally recognized scholarly work on Nebraska author Willa Cather through its Cather Project. Now, taking direction from Cather’s love of music, the Cather Project has commissioned a song cycle inspired by the text of “My Ántonia,” Nebraska’s prairie and the author’s letters.

Lincoln, Neb.--The University of Nebraska–Lincoln Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts has announced the winners of the 20th annual Nebraska Young Artist Awards.

The Nebraska Young Artist Awards annually recognize 11th grade students from Nebraska who are gifted and talented in the areas of visual art, dance, music, theatre, and film and new media. These students exemplify the pinnacles of creativity in one of the fine and performing arts.

University Singers to help celebrate Boys Town’s 100th Anniversary

LINCOLN, Neb.— In honor of Boys Town’s 100th Anniversary, The University Singers will present a concert celebrating Boys Town’s rich history of choral music on Thursday, March 16 at 7:30 p.m. at Boys Town (13943 Dowd Drive). The concert will include sacred works performed by the Boys Town Choir during their touring years in the 1940s through 70s, and will feature Faure’s Requiem. The performance will take place in Boys Town’s own beautiful Dowd Chapel. The performance is free and open to the public.

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Jazz Orchestra recently released a CD, “The Good Life: Live at Kimball Hall,” that captures many different moods and feelings with powerful live performances by the group.
