Westminster Presbyterian Church to host University Singers concert

LINCOLN, Neb.— The Glenn Korff School of Music University Singers’ final concert of the semester will take place on Tuesday, April 18 at 7:30 p.m. in the Westminster Presbyterian Church on the corner of 27th and South Streets.

World premiere will be part of Potter’s viola recital

LINCOLN, Neb.— In a concert which will feature concert music by film composers, Glenn Korff School of Music faculty Clark Potter, viola and Mark Clinton, piano, will perform the world premiere of Ernest Gold’s recently discovered Sonata for Viola and Piano, which dates from the 1950s on Wednesday, April 12 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall.

Jazz Combo performances coming to Westbrook in April

LINCOLN, Neb.— The Glenn Korff School of Music Undergraduate and the Graduate Jazz Combo performances will take place on consecutive nights in the Westbrook Recital Hall in April on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus. Both of the performances are free and open to the public.

Becker, Chang combine for performance in Kimball

LINCOLN, Neb.— Karen Becker, cello, and Ann Chang, piano, will perform pieces by Spanish composer Enrique Granados, the first of two sonatas by Gabriel Faure, a piece not often performed, and Beethoven’s Sonata in C Major, Op. 102, No. 1 on Sunday, April 9 at 3 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall. Becker will also perform the Sonata for Solo Cello by American composer Paul Whear.

Vivaldi, Haydn, Piston to be featured at Philharmonia performance

LINCOLN, Neb.— The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music’s Philharmonia Chamber Orchestra will be performing music by Vivaldi, Haydn, and Walter Piston during its performance on Friday, April 7 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall.

Viola Studio Recital

Viola Studio performance coming soon to Westbrook

LINCOLN, Neb.— The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music’s Viola Studio will perform on Wednesday, April 5 at 5 p.m. in the Westbrook Music Building’s Recital Hall.

Individual members of the combined viola studios of Jonah Sirota and Clark Potter will perform solos individually and then as the viola ensemble, NEBratsche.

The event is free and open to the public.

Boyd wins Folsom Distinguished Master's Thesis Award

With a true passion for the academic side of music, 2016 Glenn Korff School of Music Master of Music in Music History graduate Laney Boyd was recently selected to receive the 2017 Folsom Distinguished Master’s Thesis Award, presented by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Office of Graduate Studies.

Alumni Board awards announced

Lincoln, Neb.--The Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts Alumni Board has selected the recipients of this year’s Alumni Board Awards. The awards will be presented at the College’s Honors Day Dinner on Saturday, April 22. The dinner is by invitation only.

The Alumni Achievement Awards honor alumni from each academic area of the college who have demonstrated outstanding achievement and overall professional excellence.

Sergio Ruiz named director of Glenn Korff School of Music

Lincoln, Neb.--Sergio Ruiz, professor of music and chair of the Georgia College Department of Music, has been named the new director of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Glenn Korff School of Music. Ruiz will begin his new position on July 1.

He replaces John W. Richmond, who left the university last year to become of the dean of the College of Music at the University of North Texas in Denton. Peter Lefferts has been interim director of the Korff School since July.
