Multiple Glenn Korff School of Music pieces highlight ISJAC selections for symposium

Selections have been made for the International Society of Jazz Composers Symposium at the University of South Florida May 18-20 and it includes a great representation from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music.

Cotton wins Hixson-Lied Award for outstanding service

One Glenn Korff School of Music staff/faculty member was honored at the 2017 Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts Honors Day/Awards dinner on Saturday, April 22 at the Champions Club.

Vocal Coach, Accompanist Michael Cotton received the staff award for outstanding service.

Epic performance coming soon for Symphony Orchestra

LINCOLN, Neb.— Come be enthralled by all the vast emotions of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music Symphony Orchestra on Saturday, April 29 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall! First, thrill to the epic heroism of Beethoven’s Leonore Overture No. 3. Then, be intrigued by the enigmatic colors of Webern’s Six Pieces for Orchestra, Op. 6, and swoon to the nostalgic Americana of Copland’s Our Town. Finally, glory in the sweeping melodies and stirring nationalism of Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 2.

‘Portraits: a musical revue’ coming soon to Westbrook

LINCOLN, Neb.— What makes someone interesting to you? The graduate and undergraduate theatre and vocal music majors performing in PORTRAITS have been on a quest to discover the most interesting and unique characters they can find in musical theatre. Thirteen brief musical theatre scenes will be performed on Friday, April 28 at 7:30 p.m. in the Westbrook Recital Hall at the Glenn Korff School of Music to introduce you to each character through an intimate, musical portrait.

‘Drum Music’ closes out Symphonic Band’s season

LINCOLN, Neb.— The Symphonic Band closes its season with a program titled, Drum Music on Friday, April 28 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall. Works featuring percussion and/or strong rhythmic qualities by David Sampson, Derek Bourgeois, Fisher Tull and Michael Daugherty will be performed. Professor of Percussion and Jazz Studies Dr. Dave Hall will be featured on John Mackey’s Percussion Concerto: Drum Music.

Final Jazz Studies area performance is ‘Music From UNL’

LINCOLN, Neb.— The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Jazz Studies Area in the Glenn Korff School of Music is pleased to announce the final large ensemble concert for the 2016-2017 concert season on Wednesday, April 26 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall. Titled: Music from UNL, this concert will feature arrangements and originals by University of Nebraska-Lincoln students, alumni and faculty. Included in this evening’s concert will be works by Greg Simon, Andrew Janak, Chris Leach, Waturu Nimori and others.

10 years later, Fritzinger returns to Campus Band

It’s been a few years since Whitney Fritzinger took her seat amongst her bandmates and they performed music together – 10 years to be exact -- but she’s been overjoyed with her decision to sign back up for the experience again.

Fritzinger is playing with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music Jack R. Snider Concert Band as part of the Campus Band. They will be having a performance on Thursday, April 27 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall. It’s a performance that will also be live webcast.

‘Love in a Time of War’ to be performed by Opera Techniques course

LINCOLN, Neb.— War, by definition, means conflict. War can manifest in many ways, and is not limited to the physical reality of bombs and explosions. Personal, cultural, political, and emotional conflict can create an atmosphere of war within ourselves and within our relationships. In the midst of war, however, love finds a way to coexist. The  Opera Scenes performance titled ‘Love in a Time of War’ on Wednesday, April 26 at 4 p.m.

Student composers take center stage at Wet Ink! events

LINCOLN, Neb.— Wet Ink!, a concert series spread over two nights, features never-before-heard music composed and performed entirely by students at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Glenn Korff School of Music on April 21 and April 25, both starting at 7:30 p.m. in Westbrook Recital Hall.
