Emily Griffin Overocker

Student Success Coordinator

As Student Success Coordinator, Emily will provide year-round assistance for college faculty in supporting the diverse population of students in the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts. Emily will work with the college team by implementing a case management model that includes triaging student concerns (i.e. personal, academic or financial) and making connections with appropriate resources. She will proactively engage with potentially at-risk students who are identified by faculty and staff through personal contacts or campus-wide retention efforts. Emily will also work with faculty, staff, students and other members of the college community to promote academic advocacy services. In addition, she will assist with programs that contribute to the successful transition of undergraduate students, such as New Student Enrollment, the Start Smart course and success seminars.

Emily comes to us from the College of Engineering, where she was Senior Director of Student Services. She has extensive experience in student success during her more than 20 years experience in higher education. She’s also a UNL alumna, having received an M.A. in Higher Ed Administration before also earning a Ph.D. in Adult and Higher Education from the University of Oklahoma. She is passionate about the arts and is excited to be working with Fine and Performing Arts faculty and students.
